New York, NY – Police on Wednesday issued a surveillance video showing a suspect in the kidnapping of Brooklyn real estate developer Menachem “Max” Stark, whose burned body was found last week in a Long Island dumpster.

The video was taken this past Thursday night at 4:55 PM EST. and it showes a suspect exiting a white van and walking to the corner of Broadway and Rutledge Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, near Stark’s office.
Meanwhile The NY Post reports, that, frustrated cops said they believe they would have been able to stop the attackers before they left Brooklyn if they had been alerted earlier to Stark’s disappearance.
Stark’s brother-in-law reported him missing just before midnight to Shomrim, the neighborhood civilian patrol, after family members saw the video footage, relatives told The Post.
Shomrin did not tell the NYPD until nearly 2 a.m., when a member walked into the local precinct to file a report.
“They didn’t do Stark any favors by waiting,’’ said a law enforcement source. “I don’t know if we could have saved his life, but I will tell you that it’s unlikely that minivan would have made it out to Long Island.
The weather was horrible that night. The LIE was closed. It would have been a real challenge for [the kidnappers] to get out there while we’re looking for them.’’

We do not live in a shtetl. The authorities are here to help us. Whoever would delay letting the police know about a kidnapping is at best reckless.
There need to be laws enacted about Shomrim. In a situation such as this, I cannot fathom why the Starks didn’t go straight to the police. However, Shomrim should be obligated by law to do so!
I am not one of those that thinks they are smarter But the facts are not so simple.
1, The weather was terrible, there would have been little response.
2, The LIE was open all through NYC.
3, it is a quick hop onto the BQE and the LIE from there.
I think that’s a bunch of hogwash. The NYPD official policy is not to begin searching for a Missing adult for at least 24 hours After he’s reported missing….
Does anyone believe that if someone calls police that an adult is missing for 2 hours they would even considered this a case???? Come on!
Thanks to the quick work of Shomrim it took less then 2 hours to make this a homicide investigation! The second they saw the video they contacted police!

Ok, now lets go to the black dbl parked car, which to me seems to be part of the abduction, watch that just prior or at the same time that the guy from the white car comes out, the black car starts backing up as to cover for the white car, the black car has a parking space right in front but doesn’t use it.
then at 1:37 to 1:41 a guy walks infront off the black car and looks right into the car, he is Jewish can we find this guy, or the driver of the car who is parked right infront off the white van.
PD might be looking for a white car passing the LIE and cameras but its a black van that actually is the one driven to the dumpster.

Very instresting, A Body was recovered in Long Island, which is about 30 minutes drive from Mr. Starks office, 14 Hours after the police was notified, and it took another 20 hours to put the 2 reports together.
Are the police looking for excuses? Or its a made up statement from the NY Post
If this tragedy along with the Kletzky tragedy have anything to teach, it is to CALL THE NYPD IMMEDIATELY.
The new cameras being placed In Flatbush and Boro Park must be monitored by the NYPD, otherwise we will G-d forbid have more tragedies with WASTED PRECIOUS TIME.
The soonest NYPD would have started looking for surveillance footage is at least 12 hours later. It is laughable that NYPD would have started a serious search after a grown man is missing for five hours. Shomrim searching immediately and finding the tape so soon after an abduction is very rare and the NYPD knows it.
Also, dont believe Post ‘sources’ so easily, they are consistently inaccurate and have a deserved reputation for jumping the gun at tips from their ‘sources.’ They have no journalistic integrity. Case in point, anyone remember their ‘sources’ of their hilarious/pathetic front page ‘bag men’ after the Boston Marathon bombing? They had ‘upper level sources’ saying these two innocent kids were the suspects…
In most cases these missing person reports end up being false alarms. The person turns out to be by a friend etc.. Why should precious police resources be used to chase dowm every time a husband is an hour late from work? As soon as shomrim determined that there was an abduction here they contacted police. the system worked as well as possible. Unfortunately it did not make a difference in the end. He was probably dead by the time his wife realized he was missing.
We do not live in a shtetel is correct, we do however have a police department that follows protocol, you are right that its important to notify the autorities ASAP, in this pparticular case it is very doubtful that by 2:30 the police would even access the camera.

More hatred from the nypd. The shimrim notified then before midnight. There was a 911 call made. Someone should request the recording and publicly prove them wrong.

the family calling shomrin with their concern was the correct call but once they saw the film the police should have been called within seconds.

This should definately be a lesson to contact the police, first. Why not? They are more experienced in tracking down murderers then Shomrim. Even if people here feel the NYPD may have not done anything for 24 hours or whatever, still, people should contact NYPD first – if they also want to contact Shomrim, that is good, in addition.

If you look carefully, at 1:15 of the YouTube video posted below it you can see the alleged kidnapper turn left toward Stark’s office and a someone dressed in black come out of the office and hand him a small package or envelope.
Police don’t look at a missing person report until 24-48 hours after reported missing, depending on jurisdiction. The only way the police responded was because of the footage that Shomrim uncovered pointing evidence toward abduction. Without Shomrim, police would start looking at footage only when the body was found two days later. What Hubris & Hipcorcy!

The shomrim gets numerous calls daily from women that are unable to contact their husband. A few yrs ago my husband was out late on a stormy night & I couldn’t get thru to him. After a frantic hr I called shomrim. They Bh found him safe sleeping in shul. I’m glad didn’t call the cops. They would never go down to the shul to do the chesed shomrim did for me.
Kidnapped a bit before 17.00. The family reported it to the police about 0200. That makes the in a bit more than nine hours before the family reported him missing.

Police would not come running juat becausr someone says they were on the phone with there husband and the phone got cut off (or whatever the real story was that caused the wife to call Shomrim). Police act according to protocol and that means they don’t come running every time someone calls. And if they would’ve come right away what would they have found? Nothing, they wouldn’t have known which vehicle was the getaway one until Shomrim dug that up from the video. And I believe that the minute Shomrim saw that he was kisnapped they ran to the police, regardless that the NYPost wants to imply otherwise for sensational reasons.
