The Toronto Sun (http://bit.ly/1lxzco8) reports Ontario Court Justice Stephen Fuerth put a 30-day stay on the order to permit an appeal.

The children, who come from three different families, have been ordered to stay in Chatham-Kent until going to Quebec.
An original order was made in Quebec in November, but the group fled Quebec one week before the order was made. The 250 members rented duplexes at Spurgeon Villa, north of Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Children’s Services have been monitoring the settlement since the group moved to Chatham in November.
Evidence at hearing included fungus on the children’s feet, beatings, mental illness, arranged marriages for young girls, some as young as 14 and education regulations below standards.

The group denies all charges and their lawyer, Chris Knowles, stated that local Chatham-Kent children’s services do not have the ability to act on an order given by Quebec courts. He said there is an appeals process that can be implemented in regards to the judge’s ruling Monday.

Lev Tahor is headed by Rabbi Shlomo Helbrans. Helbrans served two years in prison in the United States for kidnapping a boy he was trying to convert.

Now the kinder will be able to eat, sleep in a bed and have medical attention at last. Thank you, Judge for putting the kids before politics.

#1 you should go to the same Gan Eden as the judge who took away the precious kids from their parents.

Why are all the commentors focused on foot fungus (which i dont see as normal). The article also states beatings, mental illness, and arranged marriages with under age girls. Im not suprised at the judges actions.

These children were living in an abnormal situation because the parents were in a cult. I do hope that they are placed in frum homes. Are any leaders of any chassidus supporting Helbrans?

We are not talking about slight athletes foot. We are talking about feet and legs all blue with severe fungus. We are talking about beatings and other abuse. Dont be suckered by Lev Tahor propaganda. The entire Montreal hasidic community is so disgusted that they have banned donating to Lev Tahor. the possible exception is Skver in Montreal. Tosh is too preocupied with internal machlokes to deal with issue.

My guess is that during the appeals process these families will try to flee the country.
    To the other commentators:
    It’s not just the fungus!
To #5 : Yes. If the governments of NJ & NY realized how little secular studies the yeshivas actually taught, the yeshivas would find themselves with major problems.

Excuse me but my 10 year old had fungus on her feet, hard to miss all shiny and cracked, first thing was the doctor for some stuff to put on it and clear it up. If left it can cause blood poisoning, the parents should have had it seen to.

Total anti-semitism. I grew up secular, and the high school athletic locker room was full of fungus feet, mental illness, and other unmentionables. Furthermore, why don’t we hear the courts going through the black ghettos and throwing every child into foster care?

Are people really standing up in defense of a mad man and his cult followers? These children should have the right to live a normal life. Eat normal foods, wear normal clothes, marry normal people. Judaism is not about 1 man dictating how others should live. I hope they take all the children away, and lock the leader . These people have a mental illness, the sooner we recognize it, the better off these children will be.

do you have fungus on your FEET, or on your toenails? untreated, neglected fungus on a child’s feet (FEET!) is some serious neglect.
by the way, for those of you who have not been following, the fungus was growing because the girls were never allowed to remove their socks, day or night, presumably for tznius reasons. imagine that, after a few years. that is not just some toe fungus.

Looks like the baby has some sort of bump over his nose. Not that a bump is abuse…

Sheer madness…How misguided people are led astray by megalomaniacs who preach absolute nonsense.

We are supposed to be a bright people. How can anyone of us allow ourselves to be led to the abyss of self destruction?

This has nothing to do with religion but the actions of a vile demented man who ought to be jailed for life.

Shame on the JEWISH COMMUNITY for not branding this menuval for what he is.

These menuvals must be hounded out of our communities, for the rabid dogs and leaches they are.

Aren’t all chasidus dictated by one man? The rebbe decides every move in your life.
