According to the Journal News, Putnam says it’ll keep the paper from getting its” hands on individual’s personal information.”

Putnam’s statement came a day after a judge ruled pistol permit records sought by the Journal were subject to disclosure. The judge ruled that eligible gun owners were permitted under state law to exempt their names from a public database. Any names remaining on the list the judge said were public record.

The Journal in 2012 filed Freedom of Information requests for pistol permit records from Westchester, Rockland and Putnam. The other two counties complied.

Putnam says publishing the information creates “a dangerous road map for those with criminal intent.”

When someone will shoot the workers of the the Journal News from the gun that was stolen from law abiding citizens, because the Journal decided to make the info public – I won’t cry.

I seem to recall some newspaper or another published this sort of information last year. Did any harm come of that?
