VIN news received the following Statement from Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO of OU Kosher

"We have not withdrawn our supervision. We have to see where the facts of the federal investigation lead. We will be guided by the results of the investigation as to whether there is corporate culpability."

I don't see how this raid has anything to do with the Kosher Supervision. Something dosn't smell kosher here I'm afraid....

The OU will not take off their hechsher. This had nothing to do with Kashrus. Besides the real hechsher comes from Rabbi Weissmandel. He calls all the shots. So either you trust him or you dont eat their meat.

How do you lose half of your workforce and continue on business as usual? either production must be cut significantly or the quality falls significantly. Who will do the work of those who were arrested?

This probably all happened because of the Union problems that have been going on at Rubashkin

I am mortified by the comments such as it has nothing to do with hechsher. If the owners are conducting a business illegaly you would trust tje hechsher?

May 13, 2008 at 05:48 PM MP Says:

The actual Shchita, Nikur and the rest of the kosherring needs to be done by certified mashgichim, but there are many other jobs that do not need to be done by a Mashgiach.

So the question remains. If they had problems with kashrus, why didn't the OU find these problems before?

A hecsher does not certify the legality of employees.

Eventually the OU WILL TAKE OFF THEIR HECHSHER JUST LIKE KAJ DID.

The KAJ did not remove their Hecsher. Rubashkin drop the KAJ for financial and labor conduct issius. for all of you ,Rubashkin annaonced the stop of KAJ 4 month in addvanc. There was a full page add at the Jewish Press. If there was A Kashruth problems KAJ would have dropped them immidietly!!!

May 13, 2008 at 10:10 PM state of the Jews Says:

The entire Torah applies to kashrus not just how an animal is shechted or the parts we want to observe. Fair treatment of workers is part of the Torah and it can impact the kashrus of a product. If the kaylim are kosher effects kashrus.Obeying the law impacts kashrus. Can we really say that meat produced by children is kosher? Can the OU or Rav Weissmandl say with a straight face this is OK? What else do they need to know?
Read the affidavit used to get a search warrant for Agriprocessors - its a real education. Tell me why the IRS, FBI, DEA, EPA, OSHA and a dozen other agencies were involved in this raid?
Something stinks here and we're only getting part of the story. I think Agri is toast and I'm not worried about it - there will be plenty of others ready to take their place.

So, if the law says that "shchita" is prohibited, and shchita was done, kosher "simonim"... would you (state of Jew) still say that "obeying the law impacts kashrus"? Would you consider this animal unfit for (kosher) consumption?

KAJ definitely removed their Hechsher so why belie the truth. The Rabbinate lost confidence in their ability to supervise such an operation, and the companies sorid business practices show the personality of management and the difficulty of giving them a Hashgocho. The Zechus of the saintly Rav Breur ztz"l protected the Kehilah of KAJ that they should remove themselves before this scandal has risen.

Can someone explain me what you are saying ?if a company has about thousand workers do the owners know that their mexican low life manager hired some underage and ilegals ?you all eat the stuff that come from china and all other places around the world do you know how they treat workers in other countries and evereything has a hashgocha from the best raboonim for your information the most frequent flyer miles have all the kashrus mashgichim and not for flying to IA just for flying to china which has the worst profile on human rights

23

May 14, 2008 at 01:05 AM Anonymous Says:

The reason Kashrus is an issue is because of this question: Why is there a meth lab on premises? Did the Mashgichim know about it and turn the other cheek? Did they not know about it and therefore the entire factory is questionable?

24

May 14, 2008 at 06:59 AM Anonymous Says:

Meth Lab? Now what? It seems this is just part of a vicious ongoing anti-Agri campaign by who knows who. It kills some people to see success.
