As reported by Brooklyn Daily (http://bit.ly/OHTwnI) the police department is now looking for the driver of the green Dodge Caravan who fled the scene on Avenue J. by E. 29th street Thursday. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad was at the scene of the accident hours after it occurred.

A police supervisor ordered the Collision Investigation Squad to the scene after the supervisor saw the child’s injuries at the hospital.

A spokeswoman for the Hatzoloh said it is not their policy to notify police.

The boy has a fractured left leg and is in stable condition at Lutheran Hospital.

I assume there is no law requiring them to. Why do they have to get involved? It’s nice enough they volunteer their time to respond medically. I don’t think they need other requirements. If they report good, if not also good.

What do you mean your policy isn’t to notify police? That is absurd! When a crime is committed you HAVE to notify the police. We need to do that even if we aren’t Hatzalah. Nonsense!

It’s not their policy to notify the police unless the hit-and-run driver is a shvartze. And not many shvartzes drive dodge caravans in Flatbush.

NYPD and Hatzolah where at the scence yesterday morning after it happened (I witnessed this). The streets were blocked with a dozen police cars from J and nostrand to 28th and nostrand. Let’s stop this degrading mudslinging of either NYPD or Hatzolah. They deserve our respect! gut shabbos

It seems from the article that the police knew from the accident, only not how severe it was. “Hatzoloh did not alert police to the extent of the boy’s injuries.” Thus, the headline and lede are misleading

Huh? Every licensed ambulance corp is MANDATED to inform police of any event that may have resulted from criminal activity, such as a hit and run. There’s more to this incident than meets the euygun.

Why is it Hatzolah’s business that the patient that they were treating was involved in a hit and run?

Hatzolah has made it their business NOT to get involved in such things. It won’t help the patient medically if the driver fled or not. Hatzolah does not, and should not get involved.

I was at the scene by the bakery across the street – as Hatzollah was arriving. The mom came a few minutes later. How come she did not report the hit and run?

So who did notify the police? I’d assume a parent / guardian would, just as they would call for hatzola.
It can not be hatzolas policy to notify police, as they are a medical emergency service.

If a goy hit the boy, police would have been notified.

Hatzoloh did in fact call 911. I cannot post links here to external sites, but there is a link to the recording if you click the link in the article above that links to the Brooklyn Daily story. It’s in the comments on that article.

People here should give the benefit of the doubt to the Tzaddikim of Hatzoloh.

You can also obtain the archive of the recording if you sign up on Radioreference as a premium subscriber.

Hatzoloh also has no spokeswomen, only spokesmen. So I’m not sure where the Brooklyn Daily got their quote from.
