Yakov Israel Paz was released from jail after a 10-day sentence was completed for ignoring IDF subpoenas.
In addition to a procession through the streets of Jerusalem celebrating his release, Paz had a personal meeting with Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach, who does not support the conscription law.
All of the yeshiva students arrested so far have been supporters of Auerbach’s stance.

Oy gevalt hakodush baruch chu saved this boy from commiting terrible aveiros mamesh a nes miracle ,on the other hand maybee a little taste of the real world would not hurt him like serving in the army to better his future chances of making a good living and not living on handouts from the government .
Hero? Ha! A draft dodging boy!
Seeing this massive Chilul Hashem, makes one wonder why do these people think they deserve to be protected by other Jews. Simply not right.
Lets all pray the new law stays in place. Additional consideration can taken in to effect to accommodate learning and orthodoxy in the IDF. However finally a good law needs to finalized where every citizen must serve accordingly.
Time to up the sentence to at least a month. If you do the crime you need to do the time.
Should have kept him locked up.
What a kiddush hashem…..
Yakov yisroel all the jews around the world are happy for you.
In the other hand whats the jew-haters plain? They already saw 6 times thet the jews are ready to go in prison so whats there plain for the future?
If they go out and celebrate for each one of these hooligans, they’ll need new shoes because there will plenty more of these.
Buy them before sefirah.
Oh va voy. Mamesh, almost a great a day as if the Moshiach himself came to Yerushalayim!
These boys look like they grew up quite strong off the fat of the land. No reason they can’t do something back for the Medina.
These boys are doing plenty for Israel- in a spiritual way- something the secular Israelis don’t do. They help out physically. You need both for Israel’s survival.
Not commenting on whether or not they should draft (Let everyone fight for the boys drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes outside yeshiva to avoid reality: rediculous- maybe up the 1800 top student to 7500 students this way the real learners can learn and the coffee boys can go do something with their life: fight for their country) but wouldn’t you think that Israel would have a more Severe punishment than 10 days? Seems WEAK as a punishment from Israelis!!!!
It’s interesting, the bochurim are all clean shaven with open collars, but the kids all have chassidishe peyos.
here is why we refuse to serve in IDF http://youtu.be/d3SJYRkI2hM
Nebech, a very sad day in Israel to see a scene like this. R’L
He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol
If only more and more people did what he did, soon there would be no more problem, as Israel would be wiped off the map.
The Chillul Hashem is that why are these boys any less required to join the army. Is the blood of the Chilonim protecting them worth an less than theirs? Try fighting off the enemy by sitting at the border with a Gemara in your hand instead of an Uzi
Put yourself in the shoes of an Israeli mother whose son was killed while serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). On television, you watch close to half a million Ultra-Orthodox Jews demonstrate last Sunday against a bill that would force some of them to serve in the IDF, which is mandatory in Israel. The Charedi demonstrators want their special exemption from army service to continue, because they believe that studying Torah is more important.
If you’re that mother who suffered a tragic loss, how does watching that demonstration make you feel about Torah study? Would you want to ask: Why should my boy die defending his country while other boys are safe and protected because they study Torah?
In other words, why should studying Torah be a pretext to avoid fulfilling one’s obligation to the state?
It’s a legitimate question, and any of my Charedi friends who pretend otherwise are living in denial.
[The Charedi draft debate: Dr. Irving Lebovics responds /
Knesset passes Charedi draft law / Community response]
Whenever Charedim tell me that studying Torah provides a sort of “spiritual protection” for the state, here’s how I reply (only half in jest): “OK, you give the state spirit
I am sorry that there is no condition for these men who celebrate the worth of a man who is clearly a liability to their community in their streets. This is not going to make many of you happy, but there is no Torah value in a decision to hurt the future of the jewish people by limiting our future in Israel. So I think that in my thoughts, there is no favor for the charedi communities in the higher reaches of human intention. This is a sad day, but Hashem knows the impolite society we have created. Never Again.
This is the type of welcome that should be reserved for YONNASAN POLLARD, not some little hairlip.
ShlomoEliezer:
This hypothetical woman’s son could have also joined the binei hayeahiva and not joined the IDF. As well, it was her choice to subject herself to the archaic and shmad-fueled Zionist draft laws in the first place.
In addition, the Dati Leumi believe it is a mitzva to serve in the IDF. They have a hybrid faith of Torah and, lihavdil, Nationalism (A”Z). The Chareidim do not share this faith, obviously. The Datil Leumi should respect the faith of the Chareidim (i.e. the Torah without A”Z mixed in).
