Washington, DC - Two New York auxiliary cops slain in Greenwich Village last year could be eligible for the proposed Congressional Badge of Bravery Award, Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) said.

Biden said he would confer with colleagues and "it's a possibility" that auxiliary officers Eugene Marshalik, 19, and Nicholas Pekearo, 28, could qualify for the award under legislation that passed the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday.

The bipartisan legislation would set up awards for federal, state and local law enforcement officers who perform exceptional acts of bravery in the line of duty.

Marshalik and Pekearo were shot to death in March 2007 while chasing a gunman who had killed a bartender in the Village. Their names have been engraved on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in the capital.
