“I can say that there were no rockets that were fired at Israel,” the source said.

The IDF is now examining the possibility that the Iron Dome anti-rocket battery stationed at the Red Sea city was activated despite the lack of rocket attacks, leading to interceptor missiles being fired.

There have been a number of rocket attacks on the city in recent months.

In January, the Sinai-based jihadist organization Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis claimed credit for a rocket attack on Eilat which Iron Dome intercepted.
The Iron Dome missile defense battery was stationed near Eilat in July 2013 amid increased unrest and instability in Egypt, particularly in the Sinai region.
