Every time I hear of food prices going up I can’t stop and think of the whole parsha of these frivolous simcha events where it seems to be a total waste... you can tell: that most PEOPLE WOULD RATHER NOT BE THERE and are just doing this as a FAVOR/ SOCIAL OBLIGATION for the bal simcha . I’m talking all these simchas, bar mitzvahs , upsheren , it’s like a whole waste ! Why can’t people just make it small like it was when I grew up 25 years ago?

gr8 point it has just gotten out of hand.. why in earth do you have to spend a few thousand dollars on an usherin just make a little simcha with the zaides in babbes and the immediate family i dont mean every uncle and aunt i mean just the siblings and the grandparents... and now u make a bas and bar mitzvah like a chasunah i dont understand ppl will actually get insulted if they arent invited???????? please if they dont invite u thats much better u dont feel pressured or obligated to invite back and it is less stress and pressure for the parents who have to go in to debt for the rest of their lives...

This is what happens when one supplier commands 70% of the market for product; when a crisis hits their production there is no way other producers can "ramp-up" to fill the void in any significant way.

Looks like we'll all be having tofu for a few Shabbosos.
