The Independent (http://ind.pn/1nssBs8) reports The Viking Thor Shop, an outlet of the controversial brand Thor Steiner, opened two weeks ago in Finchley. Thor Steiner’s brands have been banned from government buildings and some footballs stadiums because the logo of the brand closely resembles logos worn by SS officers. The brand has been linked to far-right groups and football thugs.

The store is located near the office of UK’s Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis and the Islamic Association of North London. Groups in the area are concerned that the store’s presence could incite violence from far-right supporters, but the store’s owner, Zsolt Mogyorodi denies associations with neo-Nazis and says he is not racist.

London police stated the store is not operating illegally.

Launched in 2002, Thor Steinar has faced controversy over its logos and store names.

In 2012 it named a German store Brevik, stating it was named after the Norwegian town of Brevik in Oslo. Critics alleged the store was named after right-wing murderer Anders Behring Breivik. The name of the store was later changed.
