I’m not sure why Jews continue to live in places that historically have been anti-Semitic. Why are Jews in Ukraine, or in Poland, or anywhere in Eastern Europe? There are not many Jews on the planet, and very few of those are Shomer Shabbos and keep mitzvos. We could all live in Israel, the UK and the US and leave those other blood-soaked countries behind.

Historically Jews have alway been the Korban, the sacrifice, to political unrest. History repeats itself.
    This could turn drastically worse.
    God forbid!

There used to be a saying in the news business that “dog bites man” isn’t a headline, but “man bites dog” – now that’s a headline!

That a shul in golus is attacked is no headline. That a random passerby took it upon himself to get involved and to extinguish the fire before it could cause major damage – that’s what the headline of this story should have been..

For those of you who, in response to prior Ukraine articles, have been fear-mongering and sowing panic of antisemitism in the Russia-leaning Eastern Ukraine, ask yourselves what was the ethnic background of this random passerby. My sense is that were he a yid, the Rabbi would have mentioned it, so he was likely one of these Russian-side Ukrainians you’ve been vilifying.

There was once a quite vulgar satirist ‘performer’, Sacha Baron Cohen, who would adopt a persona named ‘Borat’, using the USA stereotypes and prejudices of Central Asians to make fun of Americans, and anybody else who wasn’t a Central Asian. I didn’t approve of the performer, but I have been thinking that this Ukraine situation is just the kind of mess that the ‘Borat’ character would be well suited to address.
