Postville, IA - Agriprocessors, Inc. in Postville owes more than $270,000 to a Kansas-based graphic design firm that has decorated packages for hundreds of its meat products, according to a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday.

The lawsuit by Creative Source Group, Inc. seeks reimbursement for allegedly unpaid bills from the kosher meat processor, including some the lawsuit says are more than 60 days overdue.

Creative Source Group has performed graphic design work for Agriprocessors since 2005 as part of a spoken agreement, the lawsuit alleges.

The Overland, Kansas design firm features several of the package designs prominently on its Web site. The “Aaron’s Best” product line includes corned beef, turkey breast, beef salami, chicken, turkey patties and beef franks.

A tagline below the pictured products boasts that Creative Source Group has provided “brand enhancement and package design for a family of over 500 products.”

The lawsuit does not mention the May 12 federal immigration raid at the plant that netted 389 suspected illegal immigrant workers. The bust also exposed allegations of worker abuse and fraud among the plant managers, though no one from the management has been charged.

A spokesman for Agriprocessors was not immediately available.

The most recent monthly invoice sent to Agriprocessors was for $20,257.15, the lawsuit alleges. Officials with Creative Source Group have requested a total of $270,218.07 plus interest and other costs.

The more to this is, is that the company thinks it will get the attention of rubashkin now, because this is another blow to them, that their company hit the media yet another time.

Federal suit??? this should be taken to civil court... or arbitration. (collection agency anyone???)

Yes, Federal Court. The design firm is in KS and Agri is in IA. Unless they had a contract that mentions which state would have jurisdiction in case of a lawsuit, the Fed. court is where to go. (The business crossed state lines.)

Why didn't they use a Heimishe design firm? There are some very professional Package Design firms owned by Heimishe Yidden. I guess they didn't want to hurt one of their own. "Vechay Ochicho Imoch".

i cant see a $270,000 bill put someone into bankrupcy this is a multi million $ company the granted the legal issues are a major headache and replaciong 389 people is a human resource nightmare but these issues shouldnt stop the company from being able to continue running

1. Latest invoice is for $20,257.15 (and is a "BIG" 60 days old!).
2. Which means they claim that Agriprocessors owed them about $250,000 BEFORE this invoice, yet they were comfortable extending them more credit.
3. Agriprocessors hits the media with unfavorable reports, and now not only do they owe "too much money" for "too long" (60 DAYS! GEVALD!), but a they feel they need to go to court to collect (or is it to get wide spread attention?).
4. Something smeels rotten (and it isn't the meat).

As the previous poster said, they're afraid that Rubashkin will go Chapter 11 and want to be first on line.

They're figuring that the immigration scandal is just the beginning of Rubashkins' tzoros.

Lesson to learn: Honesty in business is a command from G-D in the Torah just like eating only kosher meat is a law.

This week, PETA filed a complaint with the USDA, complaining that government regulations were not being followed at Agriprocessors. It sought suspension of the plant’s license and possible criminal proceedings.

Some Orthodox officials called PETA’s campaign an attack on shechitah more generally and part of a history of anti-Semitic canards.
