Jerusalem – A rabbi that was arrested in Israel on bribery charges in 2012 has received a plea deal that would allow him to serve only one year in prison in exchange for testimony against a retired general of the Israeli police.

Walla News (http://bit.ly/1jXmuJY) reports that Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto must return to Israel first before signing the deal to testify against retired Major General Menashe Avriv, former commander of the Israeli police’s corruption unit, on charges that Avriv accepted bribes from Pinto. The bribes included $2,000 a month for Avriv’s son, who would also receive a U.S. visa from a Manhattan lawyer, and the use of a condo in Manhattan for Avriv.
Pinto was arrested in 2012 for bribery charges after offering $200,000 to Brigadier General Ephraim Bracha, chief of the Police Investigation Division, while he was investigating Pinto on allegations of money laundering.
Pinto was indicted on one charge of bribery and one charge of obstruction of justice.
