We are in the process of determining how many patients may be affected, and will contact each individual by mail. While Maimonides adheres to high standards of computer security according to HIPAA regulations, the Medical Center is undertaking a complete review of policies and procedures to ensure that this does not happen again.

This hospital is getting too big. Our community is losing control to the "Machers" who want to change maimonides into a Citywide, Staewide, and National player in the healthcare industry, at the expense of our own Boro-Park community.

this is so not surprising. my father in law was hospitalized last year.

Health care economics requires MMC to either expand its base or fold. The community hospital days are over here and across the USA. The focus of the community should be to implore MMC to improve the quality of care at MMC per Federal quality of care reviews. To date (except in Cardiology and Peds)MMC is very average.

You must work at Maimonides!
There are viable community hospitals in Brooklyn, such as Community Hospital in Flatbush.
They are affiliated with the Presbyterian Health System of Weil-Cornell in Manhattan and with Methodist Hospital in Park Slope.
Unlike Maimonides, however, they are community oriented.
Lutheran Hospital is also a community hospital, and very successful one indeed. Wendy Goldstein runs her place very well. She isn't busy running around to conferences and being a "Macher."
The Maimonides administrators have an "edifice complex." They want to be masters of the Universe," at the expense of the people who created the hospital in the first place.
This is a betrayal of the Jewish community of Boro park!

Deepthinker- MMC (and Israel Zion) preceeded the "community" by many decades. I do not even live in NYC anymore but do work for a Federal health agency.
Maybe they can be more community focused, but unless they hook-up with a larger base they will get squeezed out of the business. Quality of care is what you need to focus on- MMC is very average in most areas.

Study your history. Maimonides is the result of a merger of Beth Moses, Isreal Hospital, and Zion Hospital, which were founded by RELIGIOUS JEWISH IMMIGRANTS in the early 1900's. The hospitals featured kosher food.
Maimonides, like many other Jewsish hospitals in New York and elsewhere, PRIMARILY served the Jewish community. In fact, Mount Sinai Hospital used to be called Jew's Hospital, because it served indigent Jews exclusively, except for emergency cases.
Maimonides has betrayed its community. In the pursuit of "careerism," a group of carpetbagging outsiders--interlopers--have taken over the administration of the Hospital, and now seek to convert it into just another latge big-city institution, at the expense of properly serving the community who built it, with their blood, sweat, and tears.
I do agree with you that Maimonides should affiliate with a larger institutional system to protect its financial viability, just as Community Hospital in Flatbush--a much smaller hospital--affiliated with the Presbyterian Health System.
Such an affilation will allow the Hospital to continue to serve Borough Park with the kind of caring and high quality service that our community deserves.

Deepthinker: I agree with you on the history of MMC and its current administration. You are there and I'm not. Just want everyone to focus on the quality of care issues where MMC lags behind most other NYC hospitals. Those stats are "black and white" and are the facts. What are the MMC administrators doing to address the mediocre quality of care issues? Is there a plan? What do the frim docs who admit patients to MMC saying? They exert alot more leverage on MMC operations than most people think.

Beth Israel Medical Center also built by Jews for the Jewish imigrants is going in the same direction as Maimonides. The people hired for management positions to help improve health care are lacking in many areas.
