Brooklyn, NY – Lebovits Gets Two Year Sentence in Guilty Plea, Will Likely Be Out in Months

Brooklyn, NY – Just over two years after a New York State Supreme Court ordered a retrial in the case of a Brooklyn rabbi who had been found guilty on eight counts of child molestation, the 63 year old defendant has pleaded guilty to a criminal sex act, finally putting an end to the long and convoluted case.

Baruch Lebovits was ordered to serve two years in jail after entering a guilty plea, a sentence that the judge described as being “average” for those who pleaded to similar crimes, according to reports in The Daily News, which speculate that Lebovits’ incarceration will likely last approximately three months time over time served and good behavior.

Baruch Lebovits, who was accused of molesting a teenage boy in 2004, was convicted of child molestation in 2010 and sentenced to a prison term of up to 32 years. That decision was overturned on appeal in April 2012 after the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court ruled that Lebovits’ conviction was a direct result of errors committed during the trial.

Further complicating matters was the 2011 indictment of Samuel Kellner for allegedly extorting and bribing witnesses to testify against Lebovits in his first trial, as previously reported on VIN News.

The Lebovits case garnered extra media attention when the District Attorney Thompson’s office appointed Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi to the Lebovits case. Nicolazzi is a high profile homicide bureau chief whose undefeated record has earned her the reputation as Brooklyn’s top trial prosecutor.

Shortly after his election, Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson categorized the Kellner prosecution as “botched” and asked former District Attorney Charles Hynes not to offer a plea deal to Lebovits.

Lebovits’ supporters have criticized Thompson, suggested that the District Attorney had an allegiance to Kellner, whose supporters voted for Thompson in the November election.

I remember my mother being in Maimonides Hospital one Shabbos and I stayed with her during shabbos and Rabbi Lebovits walked into the hospital looking for guests to invite and I’d already had plans for the Shabbos seudah so he graciously offered me a place to stay Shabbos night. I’m still thankful to him for that.

From 32 years to a few months. The DA should be in prison. This guy’s victims will always be in prison.
PS-why do you people defend gays only if they like boys but not when they like adults? Where did you learn this? In your yeshivas?……..

You are so ignorant. People do plead guilty even if they’re innocent.

It takes a lot of things to prove you are smart, but only one thing to prove you are ignorant.

Innocent people do plead guilty. In many cases that is the simpler way to put an end to a difficult process. Weberman did not plead guilty for the same narrow minded reason. And look where it got him.
