New York - After a firestorm in the blogosphere and on talk radio, Dunkin' Donuts has pulled an online advertisement featuring a spokeswoman wearing a black-and-white scarf that some conservative commentators complained made her look like a terrorist sympathizer.

Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin wrote a column condemning the ad because the scarf looks like a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. She wrote that the garment has come to be associated with violent jihad. She and other commentators took Dunkin' Donuts to task and even began talk of a boycott.

"Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant (and not so ignorant) fashion designers, celebrities and left-wing icons," Malkin wrote in her column. "Fashion statements may seem insignificant, but when they lead to the mainstreaming of violence -- unintentionally or not -- they matter.

For their part, Dunkin' Donuts officials initially tried to downplay the controversy and said the scarf was not a keffiyeh.

But eventually management decided to pull the ad and released this statement: "In a recent online ad, our spoksewoman is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial."

It takes the Fox facists to create controversy where none exists.

I believe them, and it's a shame that such images have so saturated people's minds to the point that companies have to limit the colors of the scarves their people wear.

Come on, it's a scarf. Stop being so pathetically weak and scared. Their donuts aren't very good either. Why should we support mega-corporations anymore anyway? There are better donuts at your local mom and pop store. And Rachel Ray and Malkin deserve each other - both mindless corporate slaves.

Instead of faulting the reporter babe from Fox, why don't you libs also agree that the thought of someone wearing that thing on their head makes you extremely nervous?

Opinions and threats of boycotts are fine. I just considered the source and saw it as the typical Fox commentator--a facist.

Millions of men and women in the Middle East have worn shemagh scarves for hundreds of years. I have a picture of the Ben Ish Hai wearing the same scarf wrapped around his turban.

Think of the tzaddik who wore that scarf instead of the murderer?

Now, don't you love it? Its cotton, its cool and its eco-friendly. Maybe I should trade in my hot sheital for a shemagh instead.

Fox is right on this issue. They should also report on the N.K. for wearing the same scarf as Palestinians. D.D. should stick to it's American Uniform and not "try to change," like Obama Osama wants.
