Monsey, NY - The third and fourth reported black bear sightings in Rockland in a month happened today, with what appeared to be a black bear cub snooping around Lexington Avenue in Suffern.

Two previous sightings were in Suffern on May 21 and Stony Point on May 12. Today’s sighting was reported at around 7:30 a.m.

Suffern Sgt. Edgardo Alvarez said an officer spotted the bear and scared it away using his siren. He added that police cruisers were out circling the area just in case.

The sergeant said, “So far we’ve been looking in the area. We haven’t seen it again.”

Another bear was spotted in Monsey today and police reported this afternoon they were trying to trap it.

The baby bear is now on a tree at Remsen Ave. & Grove, PD and Chavirom on scene waiting for special
units.

A DEC worker shot the bear with a tranquilizer gun and it was put into a drum-like container to be transported to a state park. Hundreds of people looked on.
