Brooklyn, NY - Councilman Simcha Felder is not getting into the city comptroller race, but he will run for the Brooklyn State Senate seat currently held by fellow Democrat Kevin Parker. The five-way comptroller’s race was always going to be a tough haul for Felder. (He never declared, but gave every indication he would enter the race). Felder, who is an Orthodox Jew, was one of three candidates from Brooklyn (along with David Yassky and Jim Brennan) running for comptroller, and one of four Jewish candidates (in addition to Yassky, Melinda Katz and David Weprin). The fifth candidate, Adolfo Carrion, is well-funded, and is the only Latino running citywide. Felder has doubtless calculated that in a Senate race, the demographics will be more to his advantage. If the votes split along ethnic lines, Felder could conceivably put together a winning tally on the strength of the district’s Orthodox Jewish population, which is concentrated in Borough Park. Borough Park, the 45th Assembly district is represented by Dov Hikind, who has told some members of the Jewish community that he wanted Parker unseated. Felder used to be Hikind’s chief of staff. Mayor Bloomberg is going to put his political clout on the line and will be endorsing his longtime ally for the state Senate seat. Felder has roughly $1.4 million on hand in his city campaign committee. Because the contribution limits are lower for city races, he can use that cash to bankroll a Senate run. Brooklyn Councilman Simcha Felder confirmed  this morning that he indeed plans to challenge Sen. Kevin Parker in September.

I've known Simcha Felder since he was a bochur. I was his professor in college for several courses. You ask where he was a mensch? Anywhere you touch him. He is a baal midos, a talmid chochom, an ehrliche yid, a class act gentleman who has warm and encouraging words to everyone he meets. He works selflessly and diligently for the good of his constituents, for the city as a whole and for klal yisroel. There are very few real menschen in politics but Simcha Felder is surely on top of the list.

So why did he vote to build a goyish building next to shop rite if he is so ehrlich?

Simcha supporting a goyish building says nothing about him "not being ehrlich". He has supported many Jewish organizations and works for the good fo the Jewish people, that being said, he serves his community as well Anonymous.
Contrary to what Anonymous believes, being Ehrlich and helping others are not mutually exclusive.
The real question is though: what about the pigeons?

To Name
I hope you also don't forget all the other stuff Felder did for us in the community, Like getting alot of funding in the past 7 years into his district, getting us a new park on 18 Avenue, trying to get rid of the garbage flyers on our door steps, and fighting for us when we need him.

You know that his vote didn't make a difference at all.

You have your politicians mixed up. It was Simcha - not Dov - who worked on the flyers. It was also Simcha who got the garbage trucks off the streets in the morning to help traffic. Even though he's kosher, he brings home the bacon!
