New York - Rubashkin: Its All Lies, Media Lynching, And The Reform Jews Should Get A life. AUDIO |
|

Aaron Rubashkin, outside his Brooklyn butcher shop on June 3, 2008, says his Agriprocessors firm "don't do no injustice to nobody, not to a cat."
In the first substantive comments by an Agriprocessors representative since the government rounded up more than a third of its employees on immigration charges in a May 12 raid of its Iowa plant, Rubashkin flatly denied allegations of worker mistreatment and plant mismanagement.
Everything is a lie,” Rubashkin told JTA.
In a more than hourlong interview May 30 outside his Brooklyn butcher shop in the heavily Orthodox enclave of Borough Park, the 80-year-old Rubashkin was visibly angered by the flood of charges that have imperiled his business, the country’s largest kosher slaughterhouse.
We got 21 or 23 inspectors,” Rubashkin said in a thick Yiddish accent. “Every minute the plant is open, there is USDA inspector. We got maybe 30 rabbis. How can we do something which is wrong? If I want to, God forbid! We are ethical people. We don’t do no injustice to nobody, not to a cat.”
Dressed in a blue cotton shirt and black fedora, Rubashkin acknowledged that he was concerned the company may be brought up on criminal charges, but said he was “a hundred percent confident” that he would prevail in court.
“I believe in the American system, and I did nothing wrong,” said Rubashkin, who opened his shop in 1953, the same year he emigrated from Russia.
Asked why he was replacing his son Sholom as vice president if the charges are phony, Rubashkin threw back his shoulders and arched his eyebrows.
“For the business,” he said. “In order to enforce, after such a shock, we want to beef up management—change management, change rules, to do different ways.”
Rubashkin emphasized that the management change was for the sake of the company, “not for the people.”
“We treat people—I wish everybody should be treated like we treat people,” he said.
Rubashkin denied underpaying his workers, saying that all new hires start at $8.60 per hour—above the federal minimum wage of $5.85, that workers are paid time-and-a-half for overtime and that they are provided with paid vacation and health care. He further said he had no idea that his workers were illegal and that they had produced what appeared to be legitimate work documents.
The affidavit states that Agriprocessors received five separate notices from the Social Security Administration of 500 Social Security number discrepancies.
“People coming there looking for jobs—they bring ID with a photo, with a number,” Rubashkin said. “With the same card the person go to the bank. With the same card he got his credit card. With the same card he bought a car.”
“19 million illegals here? I don’t bring ‘em here. I pay taxes and the government supposed to control the stuff.”
Rubashkin also had harsh words for the media, which he mockingly referred to as the “free press” and twice compared to the Soviet, state-run media.
“A lynching press,” he called it.
He accused the media of harping on the negative and ignoring the good he has done for the Postville community. Rubashkin said he offered full medical coverage to workers and their families, paid for cancer treatments for sick workers at the renowned Mayo Clinic 100 miles to the north and helped set up a day-care center for the children of employees.
Katie Hageman, who runs Postville Child Care Services, told JTA the Rubashkins donated $20,000 to the construction of the center, which caters primarily to the children Agriprocessors’ employees.
Rubashkin sees himself as a victim of an immigration system that Washington has steadfastly refused to fix. He has bitter words for the Jewish social justice activists who have spoken out most vigorously since the raid.
The Conservative movement has urged kosher consumers to “consider” whether they should purchase Agriprocessors’ products, while Uri L’tzedek, a social justice initiative launched by liberal Orthodox rabbinical students, circulated a petition threatening a boycott of the company.
“I’m against tzedek?” Rubashkin asked, using the Hebrew word for justice. “It’s a very nice word, but what kind of tzedek? Tzedek is when you give a person what to live. Tzedek is when you give ‘em a salary he should be able to pay rent. Tzedek is when you sick, you should have a doctor. This is tzedek.”

These are the biggest lies of all.
Rubashkin is guilty of all the charges. To believe otherwise is like believing in the tooth fairy.
Sure, we are supposed to give a person the benefit of the doubt, and he is innocent until proven guilty. But one is allowed to use simply common sense. If you see a large pillar of smoke above a hill of leaves, but you do not see a flame, is it wrong to "know" there is a fire under that smoke? Of course not.
Hashem gave us common sense and functioning brains. To say, "Well, I don't see flames, so I must assume the smoke is a nes min hashomayim and there is no fire," is to spit on the gift of intelligence that Hashem gives us.
True, we have laws of eidus and evidence for a Beis Din to go by. But we individuals do not need to ignore the smoke.
If one sees an object falling, and the only higher structure in the area is a building. May one assume the object is falling from the building, or must we assume it came from the sky?
The great preponderance of the very credible evidence here with Rubashkin is a pillar of smoke which can't be denied. There is a fire under that smoke.
Sure the silliness of the ways of today tell us that if anyone questions the Rubashkins he is "Against" them, or a Rubashkin "hater."
Or, some other spurious challenge to the credibility of the speaker. Like some politicians, they use carefully engineered sound bites which are geared to make anyone who does not just love and protect the Rubashkins look foolish or even evil.
However, this itself is evil.
How dare you try to tell us there is no fire under this humongous pillar of smoke?
How dare you try to tell us this falling body is not coming from the only neighboring structure? Aaron Rubashkin would have us believe his troubles fell from the sky. That everyone was against him. That he is an innocent "victim" ... the concept aimed at manipulating our emotions....
Also, note this denial timed to come after that wishy-washy statement from the RCA. The RCA statement is supposed to put us in the mindset to believe this Aaron Rubashkin statement
Well, Mr. Rubashkin, some of us will not drink your Kool Aid. We will not believe your fairy tales this time.
No, we do not hate you. No, we are not "against" you. We just do not believe a word you are saying now, in your weak attempt to cover up and deny your wrongdoings.
Mr. Rubashkin, you are not a victim. But, you are trying to make us all victims of your perfidious actions and lies.
We all hoped you and Sholom would have finally come clean and tried to rebuild Agri in an honest way, doing what is right. We needed you to do that, to admit what you and Sholom did wrong, and correct it. How disappointing that you want to continue to try to cover up and deny your wrongdoing.

you write and write but you say nothing except continue all the accusation put forth. and they are all false.
here are some of the accusations frm the gov. search warrant.
1) the gov accused them of a meth lab. NOT FOUND
2) gun running. NO GUNS FOUND
3) pipe bomds etc. NOTHING FOUND
4) paying workers with cash. INFORMANT #7 TRIED TO FIND AND COULD NOT
5) providing fals papers for illegals. #7 TRIED YO BUY PAPERS COULD NOT
6) hiring workers knowingly having false papers. AGAIN #7 TRIED 3 or 4 TIMES AND THEY DID NOT HIRE HIM
7) not paying minimum wage. #7 AGAIN GOT PAID CORRECT WAGES
8) doesn not pay overtime. AGAIN #7 GOT PAID OVERTIME.
and the list goes on and on. this raid like the one on COJO in borough park (if you all recall they surrouned the block with swat team and machine guns out etc. and what did they find nothing. it was just jealousy and infighting there against dov hikind. who was accuse and found INNOCENT. so even if the accuse rubashkin. remeber you are innocen UNTIL PROVEN guilty) the goverment accuses all day they have the time and money. and especially when it is very easy to accuse (unfortunantly in america you can accuse people of crime and there is no consiquense if your accusations are false. example if you call 311 in newyork and report a person of being a child abuser. you do not have to give your name and then the city will go to that person and run him through hell. and if it all proves out false what happens to the person who called ? NOTHING.)
so poeple dont rush to judge and accuse. dont be so blind about hiring illegal aliens. you cleaning lady is illegal (even if you only have one for erev pesach) that resturaunt you go to has illegals. the grocery store guy has illegals they pizza shop has them. all those construction people have them.
so let us not rush to judge others before we judge ourselfs
to the rubashkin family. may gd bless you for what you have accomplished may gd protect you from you enemies. and may hegive you strenth to come out of this storm stronger and bigget and better.

I think you're all missing the point on the RCA statement.
The fact that they put it out is very telling. They NEVER get involved with the OU's kashrus issues, this shows the intense pressure that Frum Rabbonim are getting to announce a boycott, or something similar.
Yes, it says we can't assume it all to be true, but if you read between the lines, its admitting that there is what to discuss.

What does this all have to do with truth and reality? the Union has an agenda. They have the money (yes, the money of the worker they are "protecting"). They have the time. They have a tremendous PR machine that its only goal is to justify its own existence by breaking yours with threats and coercion. They know it all. They can see through smoke. They can see through smoke, because they are experts at creating smoke - and if need be even a little fire. Their motto is simple - "If you are not with us then we shall destroy you". By the way, some food for thought - How many people were not only alleged of certain crimes but were actuall charged and then convicted in a court of law and then sentence to death - G-d forbid, and ultimately were cleared by DNA? this phenomenom is exactly the reason why one is innocent until proven guilty!

"Rubashkin sees himself as a victim of an immigration system that Washington has steadfastly refused to fix."
It's true that under the godforsaken Clinton administration our immigration policies and enforcement practices were non existant. He may not have created this mess, however his governements inaction and disregard on this matter is to blame for all of our illegal imigration issues (Including 9-11) not the average U.S. citizen.

Aaron Rubashkin and his wife are models of Anshei Chesed. Their house is LITERALLY open to all. His Shabbos table was always full of guests, of all stripes. Homeless types, chassidic, yeshivish, no questions asked. Just heimish shabbos meals, pleasant surroundings, bentching, a friendly smile. The Rubashkins have no airs about them. No g'virish arrogance. Their restaurant on 13th Ave is open for one primary purpose. It's a place to eat for people who can't afford to eat in their own homes. All the paying customers are mere covers for all the non-payers.
The Rubashkins are aristocrats, without behaving like ones. They are BLUE-BLOODS, from the most beautiful families of old-time Russian chassidim. As an old neighbor,it has always been an honor to know them.
Anyone who has a business today, KNOWS that the labor pool is full of workers who have dubious documentation. You hire who you think looks like a good worker, and hope that his paperwork is legit. Employers are not, and never have been, required to act as INS investigators.
You out there who are full of venom, and self-rightously point fingers - think for a moment, if assorted government agencies would look into your doings, and into the doings of YOUR organizations.
Your hatred betrays uncleanliness on many levels.
If Klal Yisroel had more Rubashkins, and less of your hatred and self-rightiousness, we would truly be worthy of redemption.
But now, unfortunately, 'ochein, nodah hadovor'...

I think that the Rubshkin Bashers are right what's wrong is wrong and where there is smoke there is fire. We Jews are moral honest people!!!
And..I think you should set an example for the rest of the world and a Tikum Oilam.
1. Get rid of your illeagal or wthout green card shiksa that is cleaning your toilets and taking care of your kinderlach.
2. Pay your leagal or ileagle Shiksa by check and take the w-2 withholding tax and pay it to the IRS or issue a 1099 ,
3. Refuse to accept food stamps and WIC because it is imoral to lie and cheat the US government pleading poverty while driving an Escalade and having two homes and dressing in Burberry and Escada (very expensive designer brands) .
4. Stop paying your freinds children's tution and vice-versa while deducting it as charity.
5. Never ever build or alter or add to your home without a permit!!!!!!!
6. And this most important!!!! When traveling and your starving or the local kosher market is closed DO NOT BUY Arron's Or Rubashkin in the Supermarket!!!!!!
PS Just a suggestion this summer when you stock up your Home (bunaglow) in The Catskills with
Wal-Mart Appliances and furnishings, perhaps this year keep the items you purchased and used for three months and do not return it Labor day for a full refund...they (Wal-Mart) kind of know what you are up to and it is a terrible Chiul Hashem.

1) KAJ left because they could not get access in the plant to Kashrus supervision. Rubashkin claims that he told them their services were no longer needed because he consolidated supervisions. Who was telling the truth?
2) All the fines tha Rubashkin paid to OSHA, environmental protection, etc. Where did the money come from?
3) Rubashkin already admitted in court that he hires illegal people (see Jan 4 2008, Circuit court of Appeals, District of Columbia). His father then denied it in the JTA interview. Who is telling the truth?
4) As has been brought out before, the Korbon of a Zonah is not accepted. What difference does it make if he gives a lot of tzedaka if it is ill gotten money?
Rubashkin blames conservative and orthodox Jews now. It this the Chabad way of being mekavev another Yid? Who is next? Religous Zionists? anti Mechisists? Other Chasidim?

Are you implying that the beheima moving around after shechita is due to controled live brain mobilization?
Perhaps PETA and All of the other organizations calling for an end to Shechita world wide are correct and Shechita is tzar B'lchiam?

I am an immigration attorney. My job is helping people to legalize their status in the United States. Every day I get calls from business owners saying, "My best worker needs a work permit - a Social Security number - a Green Card - can you help?" Due to the harsh, unrealistic, broken immigration laws, sometimes nothing can be done for that person. These are jobs Americans don't want - plucking chickens, holding steers for the slaughterers. Other industries too - for example, roofers and landscape gardeners - American workers are not interested in doing these jobs. These small business owners desperately want to abide 100% by the law and hire only legal workers, but they can't. The broken immigration laws won't allow their best, sometimes their only workers, to legalize their immigration statuses in the United States. It's not a matter of having an arrest record, these are perfectly law-abiding people who want to become lawful permanent residents of the United States, paying taxes and working hard to make a living lawfully, without having to look over their shoulders for the dreaded officers from Dept of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (new name for INS since March 2003). It's a horrible situation for these Mom-and-Pop businesses which are forced to rely on immigrant labor (or go out of business completely) but fear being smacked with civil and criminal penalties from the Dept of Justice. The solution is not deporting everybody, and the solution is not putting all these business owners out of business and into jail for hiring illegal workers. President Bush came out with a sensible proposal for earned legalization - not an amnesty, with penalty fees and an admission of wrongdoing - to allow illegals without criminal records, with jobs and a history of tax returns, to legalize their statuses and become lawful residents. That's what Rubashkin and ten thousand other small business owners need, not to mention ten million people who just want to work hard and legally and raise their families to be proud Americans.
