Monsey, NY – After VIN News published a report of an interview of leading Chasidic singer Lipa Schmeltzer by Israeli broadcast personality Menachem Toker, Schmeltzer himself contacted us to point out that his remarks to Mr. Toker were taken out of context in the report, and that he wanted to set the record straight for our readership.

Lipa tells VIN News that what he meant was that he does indeed not regret the cancellation of the Big Event concert, and it was not a mistake to do so.
He explains that he acted according to the ruling of many rabbonim who came out against the concert—and that following a halachic ruling was not a mistake, and he will always listen to what rabbonim say.
However, he explains that those rabbonim ruled on faulty, false and biased information—in other words, the information they were given about the concert did not describe the concert and was simply not true, thus leading the rabbonim to pasken on an event that simply was not going to happen in the first place. It is this situation that Schmeltzer regrets, wishing that the rabbonim had been given the facts.
Everything else reported, including the assertion that three rabbonim’s go-ahead would be enough for any concert for him, was accurate, Schmeltzer tells us.

He wants to have his cake and eat it too … chas v’sholom he can say it was a “mistake” but wasn’t that what it was? The fact that he (and others) openly admits the INFORMATION given to the Gedolim was FALSE and purposely and maliciously misleading played the most important factor in the Rabanim (or the bulk of them) in issuing that kol koreh against it. Why are we trying to maintain this aura of infallibility surrounding the Gedolim. They know they ere lied to, lipa knows they were lied to, we all know they were lied to. So why can’t we say that the cancellation was a mistake?! If they were given false info then it WAS A MISTAKE and he SHOULD regret it.
It sounds like wants to placate both sides. The sides that were livid about the lies and cancellation that shouldn’t have happened and also placate the side that follows all the Kol Korehs, no matter what false information is supplied to to create them.
I knew this would happen all the rebelious Amai Haaretz will now disqualify ALL Kol Korehs because there was one possibly faulty one.
The gedolim really need to be more careful before they rubber stamp each other – There are things that the hamon am will not except and you can’t make a blanket issur on those things.
You can make suggestions to your kehilah but signing such (Lipa type) Kol Korehs will make all Kol Korehs a joke (for the letzonei Hador of whom there are leide many)- nebech.

I urge everyone to listen to Lipa’s interview with Tuker and see for themselves that he did say exactly that, but Lipa is afraid again and he wants to use VIN News to pull back what he said in Israel.
We can only respect our leaders when they openly admit they have made a mistake. They were lied to and misled and therefore banned the show based on that false information. Isn’t that by very definition a mistake??

There were statements of clarifications from Rabbi Belsky & Reb Shmuel K – 345sam I think you should look into this – The only issue here are the so called ASSkonim who misconstrued the truth to our gedolim. I agree that its time to move on.
There seems to be a consensus here that the Rabbonim were lied to and they based their Kol Koreh on that false information. I am not so sure as the way I recall Lipa met with some of the gedolim for many hours before he decided to
cancel out. If indeed it was all based on false information he would have had his chance to prove it all lies etc. So I am not so sure that they were fed lies. However, I think that they should have realized that this is something that “ain rov Hatizur yecholim laamod bo” and Kol Koreh is not appropriate and won’t work and will diminish their stature in general also I am pretty sure they did not have a big meeting to fully discuss and investigate this issue before signing something that THEY DID NOT WRITE something that was basically photocopied from a similar Kol Koreh from Eretz Yisroel. If they deal with these issues in such a haphazard manner
they will loose all respect from the hamon am.
Of course there will be a minority of Bnei torah that will listen to them no matter what and to them I say Ashreichem!!!.

definitely one cause for yidden to be merachek is the basic lack of kavod we have for our gedolim i mean it’s embarrasing and degrading sitting here and debating whether we should listen to them and respect them oy lonu any person considering becoming frum will deffinetly get turned off maybe we ought to learn some principals of kavod from the arabs where they respect their sheiks. and secondly why should we be asking questions why does everything have to be up for debate we have daas torah who sit in toil in torah day and night deciding something who gives us permission to debate it
When Gedolim don’t do anything to prevent people from lying to their faces and then allowing thousands and thousands of Yidden to then question Daas Torah the question needs to be asked why no one is looking to correct that. People made mistakes here and instead of admitting it and making sure it doesn’t happen, people like you, lipa and the gedolim themselves are saying even though it’s a known and admitted FACT that they were LIED TO they still won’t admit they made a mistake.

why the rabonim and do not come out with a written letter to the olem that they were misled.
Its amazing to me how our head rabbonim dealt with this non issue that was based on false facts while keeping quite about yeshivas protecting rabbis that molest children. Or institutions that are money laundering. What has our religion come to. Its time we get our priorities straight and insist that our rabbonim are up to date with what is really going on in our communities. wake up people before its too late. Just remember our rabonim are not G-d they do make mistakes.
