Jerusalem – A religious Zionist lawmaker in the Israeli parliament caused a ruckus during a committee meeting on Sunday when he called for “reevaluating the integration of women in combat units.”

Uri Orbach, the Bayit Yehudi minister who holds the pensioner affairs portfolio in the Netanyahu government, made the remark during a committee hearing convened by the two most high-profile female ministers in the Israeli cabinet, Tzipi Livni and Limor Livnat.
The committee was called to discuss the issue of under-representation of females in public sector jobs.
Orbach’s remark drew a rebuke from Yesh Atid MK Ronen Hoffman.
“The minister’s call to reconsider allowing women to serve in combat is dark and primitive,” he said. “The time has come for Minister Orbach to recognize the fact that there is no moral or practical basis for discriminating between men and women in the State of Israel.”

If the ultra Orthodox men living in Israel would do their part in serving in the army, women would not have to protect them.
#1 . If the chiloni draft dodging sons of politicians would do their part in serving in the army, women would not have to protect them.
Zing!
Did someone ask the pensions minister, or did he just blurt this out?
Mitzvahs are not cancelled by discussing the reaction of pride to solvent fear. If we do have women on the front lines, it should be optional if they can indeed have that soul to durably endure that term of service. Ultimately, women have every pretense to serve in combat today, but we should have more priority for men on the front lines. Still the IDF should not be an option actively pursued against time for any soldier who needs a better condition of hope. Prayer is needed.
Chas vesholom the day an Israeli woman soldier falls into the hands of the Arabs – whatever torture etc was done to men soldiers captured by them will unfortunately be multiplied in the worst fashion.
Even if one goes with the leniency of women in the IDF, combat positions carry the most awful risk.
