New York - A former senior underwriter has filed a so-called " whistleblower" lawsuit against Capital One Financial Corp. (COF), alleging she was forced to resign after raising concerns about potential fraud at a shuttered mortgage business.

In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Rachel Steinmetz, a New York resident, alleged that her supervisors at GreenPoint Mortgage retaliated against her after she raised issues about mortgage-loan applications containing fraudulent or insufficient information.

Steinmetz, who worked for GreenPoint Mortgage for less than a year, claims she was "forced into an involuntary resignation" after her superiors made the terms and conditions of her employment intolerable in retaliation for her complaints. Steinmetz, who is Jewish, also alleged she suffered religious discrimination while working at GreenPoint Mortgage.

She's seeking at least $10 million in damages on each of her claims.

Last August, Capital One shuttered the GreenPoint Mortgage business, eliminating 1,900 jobs. A Capital One spokeswoman declined comment.

CAPITAL ONE is well known to be involved with sleazy business practices. One of them being: (I’ve heard this from numerous people (I briefly was a member over 15 years ago and I currently have good credit and do not have a CAPITAL ONE credit cart) they will pretend not to get your credit card payment on time, in-order to slap with a host late fees and consequently other fees!! This is a dirty trick that the consumer has no protection because the consumer most likely mailed their payment it regular mail .
