The men are members of the Islamic State terror group and are filmed destroying tombs that are hundreds of years old, including the tombstone belonging to the Prophet Jonah (Younis in Arabic) who is revered by Muslims, Jews and Christians reports The Daily Mail U.K. (http://dailym.ai/1qKOBSf).

The prophet is known for being swallowed by a fish or whale (depending on translation) and is a key figure in the Hebrew Bible’s Book of Jonah.

Images were released earlier this week of nearly a dozen destroyed Shia and Sunni religious shrines in Mosul and Tal Afar, Iraq.

ISIS militants believe worshipping relics and tombs is against the teachings of Islam. The shrine of the Prophet Seth (Shayth) was also destroyed by rebels.

The destruction comes on the heels of a discovery of 53 bodies Wednesday by Iraqi authorities in an area outside the city of Hillah, south of Baghdad.

Military spokesman Brigadier General Saad Maan Ibrahim said most of bodies were found with their hands bound and blindfolded, with gunshot wounds. The men were between the ages of 25 and 40.
