A spokesperson for Sgt. Shaul Oron’s family, Racheli Gazit, said Tuesday that the family will believe Shaul is alive until they are definitively told otherwise.
“As long as the identificaton process hasn’t finished, and there are no unequivocal findings, he is still alive in the family’s eyes,” she said.
Only time will tell
If he was captured alive, as Hamas claimed, and was forced to give his name, Oron Shaul, why did Hamas say they captured “Shaul Aron”? I hope he is alive and well and not in captivity but he was definitely not captured alive as Hamas said. It doesn’t make sense. Israel says he was killed, which would make sense that Hamas recovered the body and read the tag incorrectly and are claiming they captured him alive.
What we do know is that a bunch of soldiers died when the building they were in sustained heavy shelling by Hamas and the building collapsed on them. The IDF tried evacuating the wounded and dead under very heavy fire.
My theory, Oron might have died and his body wasn’t able to be retrieved, Hamas then dug up the building and found parts of his body and his dog tags.
But Oron is said to have died, when the APC was attacked. Yet the IDF didn’t find his body which may have been taken by Hamas.
I hope this won’t lead to any other prisoner swap for I could not bear to see the release of terrorists.
I so very much hope that he will return home safe and sound.
