Manhattan, NY – A developer with plans to build a 33-story luxury condo building on the Upper West Side has been green-lighted by the city to include a “poor door” in the structure for lower income residents.

NYPOST.co (http://bit.ly/1kPyrSm) reports that the developer, Extell, drew criticism a year ago when it first proposed the idea of an entrance for affordable housing renters, but a rep from the Department of Housing and Development has confirmed that Extell’s Inclusionary Housing Program application has in fact been approved.

Sources say Extell’s new building will feature 219 waterfront view units with their own entrance, while the building’s 55 affordable housing units will use a separate street entrance.

Gale Brewer, Manhattan Borough President, has promised to reject any further developments including “poor doors.”

takes you back to the days when black people had to ride in the back of the bus. Racism pure and simple. If the “low renters” have to use a different door, then everyone will know that the income of these tenants is less. For shame.

No one seems to be upset that in kj
Men and women must use separate side walks.

The Waldorf Astoria once had an event for a Jewish organization – and they would not let us in the front door. They insisted that we use a side entrance!

What’s wrong with this. Everyone wants something for free. The city is making them build affordable units. Why should someone paying 1500 have the same luxury and amenities as someone paying 5000. No one’s forcing anyone to move here. You don’t like it, don’t rent here.

In other words, not only do some people get subsidized housing at taxpayer expense, but they also can’t even be required to use a different door? What next–if rich people can have steak and scotch every night, poor people have to be provided with the same, at govt expense?

There is a Wall Street area building where they have a nice beautiful lobby for the mostly white Gentiles of Wall Street, and 2 side plain entrances for the government offices mostly held by Yidden, Blacks, and Spanish.

I totally agree with you. Any segregation is pure brainwashing. They are so brainwashed they don’t even know. It’s heartbreaking to see that people think Hashem wants them to live in constant restrain and misery.

Oh please gimme a break. I don’t see the problem. It doesn’t discriminate poor people. You just get what you pay for. Just like on the airplane if you don’t pay for 1st class you’re not granted access to it, even if you’re filthy rich if you bought an economy ticket that’s what you’ll get, and vice versa you can be dirt poor and collect money for your 1st class ticket, they’ll treat you like anyone else on 1st class as long as you posses a 1st class ticket.

The doors are not there to separate rich from poor. they are there to separate those paying market rate from those getting the break.
There might be amenities that the building starts to add to its services, such as breakfast, gym, delivery services, etc. They are under no obligation to offer these to reduced rent tenants and separate entrance is the best way to avoid issues later on.

    Schaefer Landing North
440 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, 11211.
The front small building is affordable housing. The back is gated with doorman……etc..everything rich.

No one complaint when they rented aka sold.
    ..
    You get.what you pay for…..end of story…..
