Camille Mackler, director of legal services for the advocacy group, says most are fleeing gang violence in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.
The coalition’s number agrees with statistics released Thursday by the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement.
Mackler says most are coming to live with members of their extended families — aunts, uncles, cousins, adults who can take custody — in the greater New York City area, including parts of Westchester and Rockland counties and Long Island.
Advocates plan to help match children with attorneys this weekend in Manhattan.
Tens of thousands of Central American children have arrived at the southern border in recent months.

Hopefully, some of the yiddeshe mosdos will reach out and provide some support for these poor children….either in terms of providing a temporary place to live while they seek permanent homes or simply dollars for food and medical care.
