Washington – U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer is urging federal authorities to study whether U.S. passenger jets should be equipped with devices that would protect them against missiles like those that recently shot down a Malaysian Airlines flight over Ukraine and projectiles fired near Tel Aviv airport in Israel.

The New York Democrat is calling for a comprehensive interagency study by the Department of Homeland Security, Defense Department and Federal Aviation Administration.
He notes a federal study on the technology was done in 2004, but no action was taken.
According to Schumer, a Government Accountability Office suggests more than 500,000 portable surface-to-air missiles in existence worldwide, with a substantial number acquired by terrorists.
Portable missiles packaged in tube, the launching mechanism and battery can fit in a car trunk.
Another Shumer great idea.Enough looking for publicity, do something for people you represent .Medical insurance premiums scyrocketed in Manhattan for people that buy their own insurance. Put a limit on medical insurance premium.

I remember a proposal to buy prescription drugs, from patients that did not use them. The idea was to limit prescription drug use by drug dealers and addicts.
What happened with it. Nothing. People forgot about it, it was not even considered for implementation and forgot. it

Schumer’s patented move of holding a Sunday press conference in order to glom Monday morning headlines has become a long-running joke in Washington, and yet the media continue to cover every one of his self-serving events. Frankly, starting the week by opening up the daily newspaper only to see Chuck’s mug has become tiresome and insulting. Rarely, if ever, do these photo opportunities translate into anything tangible. Don’t get me wrong, there is frequently a bill or resolution spawned from Chuck’s press conference of the week, but most are dead on arrival with a pitiful few ever being referred to committee
A few months ago, someone here claimed that Chuck Shumer floated an idea every two weeks to get his name in the papers. I have been paying attention and it seems to be true.
