New York, NY – Daily News Editorial Calls For De Balsio To Honor Campaign Promise On MBP

FILE - Eight-day-old Jewish baby rests on a table while women of the community wait for the men to finish their prayer during the traditional circumcision ceremony. 27 April 2014. EPANew York, NY – On the heels of last week’s report by the Health Department of two new MBP-related cases of herpes in infant Jewish boys, a New York Daily News editorial is calling on Mayor Bill de Blasio to step up to the plate and “deliver” on his campaign promise that he has a “better approach” to the problem.

In their NYDAILYNEWS.com (http://nydn.us/1ApJ0Fy) editorial titled “Infants at Risk,” the editors say that the time has come for de Blasio to either unveil his new policy or start cracking down on the consent form policy that has been by and large ignored by both the city and the Jewish community.

The editors note that despite a failed legal challenge against the consent form policy in federal court, prominent New York City mohel and chairman of the American Board of Ritual Circumcision, Rabbi Avrohom Cohn, defiantly continues to reject the city’s consent form policy without so much as single violation summons from the Health Department.

“Is the department hesitating because de Blasio called during his mayoral campaign for reworking the city’s stance?” the editors ask.

Throwing de Blasio’s own campaign words back at him, that he would “start over” and “change the policy to find a way to protect all the children but also respect religious tradition in an appropriate manner and come in Day 1 to City Hall with a new policy that’s fair,” the editors tell de Balsio “It’s day 208” and still the mayor’s “new rules” have “yet to materialize.”

“Children are being put at risk. Your move, Mr. Mayor,” the editors conclude.

Just curious. Say all you anti metziza bpeh propents got your way. Say NYC cracks down and everyone has to sign a consent form. What percent of those performing mila in NYC will now withhold performing metziza bpeh do due the health department ‘s warnings? I would say less than 1%. And so what are you really gaining?

That is the name of the game!!!! During election campaigns say and promise anything that will help you win the election. (whether you believe it or not,,or whether you plan to do it or not..Say whatever helps your campaign).. best proof: pres. Obama… This is a very old issue…No incentive for a politician to be truthful in what he says during election—-AS LONG AS IT GETS HIM VOTES……..

I can say with certainty that the baby on that table did not receive MbP.
Anyone else figure out “what’s wrong with this picture”?

I do not think that MbP is trusted to be orthodox by those who keep Torah in trust of G-d. I guess my previous comment did not get posted. Perhaps the conspiracy to suppress a jewish voice is such that anything that the ultraorthodox do not want does not get printed. No worry. Heaven is very much more involved in the rightful management of a conspiracy. MbP is heretical.
