Las Vegas, NV – New Yorker Magazine Profiles Richest Jew In The world

    16

Las Vegas, NV – If you have the time, Connie Bruck has an enormous 12,500-word profile of Sheldon Adelson in the latest New Yorker – written, interestingly, without his cooperation. Let’s just say Adelson doesn’t come across as a very sympathetic individual:

According to a guest at a reception in Washington a few years ago, Adelson remarked to President Bush, “You know, I am the richest Jew in the world.” He also introduced himself that way to a former Israeli official recently. The investment banker Ken Moelis said that when he saw Adelson not long ago he was surprised to hear him refer to himself as “Sheldon Adelson III.” “I said, ‘I never realized your father was Sheldon Adelson II,’ ” Moelis recalled. “And he said, ‘He wasn’t! But I’m the third-richest American!’ ”

Adelson’s outsize persona and bullying tactics, especially with regard to Israel, reminded me of no one so much as the late Robert Maxwell – possibly the first person ever to be a negative billionaire. It’s still possible, if Adelson comes unstuck in Macau, that the same fate might befall him.

What! is he eating gold bullions for supper?! He still puts on his pants one leg at a time! (like the rest of us)! With his [apparently] obnoxious personality he’ll soon find out that the world is a [very] lonely place!

The New Yorker will write any article as long as it is anti Israel or Anti jewish. They have done more negative pieces that any publication save the good old NYT and only because they have better writers. Moreover, since the article is done without his cooperation it is cleary against his interest. I dont know a thing about this guys personal life or his politics but if Hashem has seen fit to give him billions and he sees fit to give it to yidden and yiddish causes I guess Hashem knows what he is doing so all the blogggers here who think they know better better look at themselves long and hard.

The New Yorker is extremely left wing and likely has an agenda. This guy Adelson may have a big ego but is far from what is portrayed. Obviously they have an axe to grind with someone of this caliber.

And yes he does fund and give lots of tzedakah – is very smart and knows where to give his charity. Yes Chabad of Las Vegas is one of his pet projects (and some other Chabad institions) – if you notice alot of big money and names gravitate to Chabad. When you understand the logic and nature of Lubavitch-Chabad altogether one begins to understand why so much is devoted to this group from secular and non-frum individuals.

Don’t judge others by the way you were taught.Judge him by what he grew up with and the good he does in his own way.Let’s hope and pray that Hashem will make some true b’nei Torah super-wealthy and that they will do what’s right. We can dream.

why are some of you so jealous and bitter? such attitude will definately not get you any riches! firstly, you can never believe what you read in the press…and secondly as long as you personally dont know the guy… why jump to bitter jealous accusations and curses…and Loshon Hara (about safra) Fargin…. at least a jew has the money …i’m sure he gives some charity- charities of his choice… and im sure many jews benefit..better he should have it than some anti semite.

maybe if we all excersize some ahavas yisrael instead of sinas chinam – we can merit greeting mashiach bekarov!
