Rockland County officials say the amnesty program will run through September.

County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef notes that welfare is funded by taxpayers. He says amnesty with restitution will be good for both the law-abiding and the fraudulent. He also says funds for enforcement are limited.

The program was announced Monday along with the arrest of 43 people who allegedly stole more than $318,000 in public assistance.

How is it possible to steal so much money? Doesn’t medicaid simply pay for a doctor and foodstamps for food, etc.? Can s/o actually “make money” by defrauding welfare? And don’t you need to claim about 41 children to get food stamps and medicaid benefits equal to $318,000 in public assistance??

Or is this $318,000 the total cheated by the 43 ppl together (which would mean less than 7,500 each)??

litvish66, rather than throw your nonsense in peoples faces, why don’t you admit how many yidden broke the law and hashem is giving them another chance by paying restitution rather than jail time. Afterall, if they all went to jail i think you would find it tough to get a minyan in Monsey for a few years. Although we should be able to find 10. “Show me 10 righteous people and I will save the city…”

Anon 4:50, how could you understand litvish66’s incomprehensible drivel? Maybe if he used some punctuation & spellcheck/grammarcheck occasionally, other people with less patience & bigger headaches could translate this stuff into something that actually makes sense.

    Of course, I’m an optimist!

It’s going to be a long and busy summer. At least these people still have a chance to to teshuva before Rosh Hashono and return unearned benefits. This includes families, patients, doctors and medical suppliers.Maybe less people will come down with strange illnesses next year.

When asking go-d for a livlyhood hy can’t we ask the same go-d to get the money honestly?

Only fools think go-d can only give money to us by cheating. Wake up and smell the chicken.
