Ruchie Weisberg sent a letter to Detroit Jewish News (http://bit.ly/1rU94X2) explaining her dilemma. A reporter from the paper also tried to send a package and was told the same thing. A supervisor told the reporter that they were told packages to Israel had been banned because of the recent Israel-Gaza conflict but that the ban had been lifted.

JTA reports that a spokesman for USPS in the area, Ed Moore, clarified the situation, stating that when the FAA ban on flights to Tel Aviv was put into effect, postal workers were to tell customers that Global Express mail was on hold, but employees at the Southfield branch incorrectly took that to mean all mail to Israel was on hold.

Can VIN do a FOIA request to see the language in that email, so we can get clarification on how the misunderstanding happened.. If the email discusses only the global EXPRESS mail, the supervisor at that branch needs to explain herself to her bosses and the american people. I hope we don’t hear IRS/Lois Lerner stories that her hard drive mysteriously crashed and was recycled or the dog ate her computer kind of excuses.

If Detroit postal workers are anything like the NBA Detroit Piston fans loitering outside the stadium and interviewed, they’d not be the sharpest pencils in the pack.

Why is this news? Some guy at the post office made a mistake.

Should anyone be surprised? The post office can’t even deliver local mail without misrouting it; they constantly deliver mail to the wrong address, since its carriers don’t know how to read. Years ago, we used to have the same carrier on the route for 10-15 years or longer. Today, if they last more than six weeks on a route, it is a record!
