New York, NY – The medical examiner has ruled that a police officer’s chokehold on a New York City man last month caused his death.

Medical examiner spokeswoman Julie Bolcer said Friday that Eric Garner’s July 17 death was ruled a homicide.
Bolcer says his death was caused by “the compression of his chest and prone positioning during physical restraint by police.” She says asthma and heart disease were contributing factors.
Garner, who is black, was being arrested for selling untaxed, loose cigarettes. Video shows him being placed in a chokehold by a white officer. The video has caused widespread outcry, and Attorney General Eric Holder has said the Justice Department is “closely monitoring” the investigation into his death.
The NYPD hasn’t responded to a request for comment on the medical examiner’s ruling.
The cop involved must be suspended without pay; he must be indicted by a state grand jury for manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide. Also, he must be indicted by a federal grand jury for civil rights violations. These brutal cops must be weeded out, thrown off the force, and imprisoned. If we ignore this and take the attitude that “it’s not our business, it was his own fault”, etc , then we could chas v’shalom we could be next.
I read parts of the article;
Bolcer says his death was caused by “the compression of his chest and prone positioning during physical restraint by police.” She says asthma and heart disease were contributing factors.
And I see that it was a very sick man that dies from sitting. I assume he slept with 5 pillows. Does not seem like murder.
Perhaps very sick criminals should cooperate with arrests and not be viloent requiring heavy measures.
To #2 - There was no definitive evidence that the deceased “was a very violent person”, as you stated. However, just because a person resists arrest, does not give cops the right to either kill the individual (as was the result in this case), or beat the heck out of him. There are non-lethal ways to subdue a suspect, while taking him into custody. There are over 2.5 million arrests made yearly in the USA. A certain percentage of those have resisted arrest. However, they are not all placed in chokeholds, or brutally beaten. Cops are supposed to be trained in combative and defensive techniques. However, the cop in this incident was brutal, and had a history of police brutality. His career with the NYPD is now toast. He will be lucky if he doesn’t get sent to jail, either at the state or federal level.
Where did #2 state that the deceased “was a very violent person”?
