55 year old Reginald Brown of 948 Eastern Parkway allegedly took the tefillin at 2:20 yesterday afternoon when they were left unattended on the sidewalk while their owner was unloading his vehicle near his Crown Heights residence.
Police told VIN News that Brown, who has numerous prior arrests, found the owner’s phone number in the tefillin bag and contacted the owner, saying that he had found the tefillin.
Brown offered to meet with the owner in order to return the tefillin and asked for a reward for returning the missing property.
After arranging the meeting with Brown, the victim contacted the NYPD who picked Brown up at 3:30 yesterday afternoon at Kingston Avenue and Park Place.
Brown was arrested and charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
Good!
Let them riot now.
What a chillul Hashem. Hope this doesn’t lead to looting like Fergerson.
Thank G d it was a goyish perp. I thought it was going to be a Jewish scammer.
Why would any normal Yid leave his teffilin lying “unattended” on a filthy sidewalk while unloading his car?? Does he not understand that tefillin have the same kedushah as a sefer torah? On the other hand, there was a story here on VIN last year that some equally stupid Yid in BP had left a sefer torah in his parked car overnight and it was stolen. What do yidden in Brooklyn use for brains??
