Dave Gordon joined the efforts of Magen, a child protection organization based in Beit Shemesh, Israel, after joining the IDF reports Magen (http://bit.ly/VDEgf0).

Gordon’s work with Magen stopped a perpetrator from continuing to work in an Orthodox summer camp for kids in the United States, and built their media relations in promoting their fight against child sexual abuse.

Just last year, Gordon wrote in the Huffington Post (http://huff.to/1oOZjrL) about his own ordeal of sexual abuse suffered in a Jewish community south of Detroit from the time he was eight until he was 11-years-old.

“I actively pursued my perpetrators through the United States Judicial System and lawsuits are pending. I joined an Israeli-based NGO as a volunteer to support victims of abuse and their families, while also offering counsel and direction to friends and strangers who have been victimized, yet are still silently suffering,” wrote Gordon in his June 2013 piece.

“And now, I’m using my past and my proficiency to raise awareness about a social issue that’s still surrounded by so much negative stigma that many choose to turn a blind eye and shy away from it altogether,” he continued.

Gordon went missing earlier this week while fighting in Operation Protective Edge.

Its his past but not his greatness
Of risking his own-life to save others who want the decimation if jewish people!

This is the israeli leadership here at clear display
Of what they care for their own soldiers !
    But will we learn? Never!

It is very hard to comment on this topic, but I feel that I must. How many people have to kill themselves, turn to drug and alcohol, and totally destroy their lives, and that of their families and friends, before we wake up and realize something must be done.

Victims of abuse need help and support, and given all the love so they can becomes survivors.

It is time that our community rallies together to combat this issue head on, and deal with the right way.

We can not afford to keep hiding things under the rug anymore.

May this poor neshomas family be given the strength they need, and may we not hear about such tragedies anymore.

What an awful tragedy. Look at his eyes… one can see the depths of sadness therein.
Letoeles, anyone know names of the abusers in Detroit? Or the Rabbinic enablers? I live there now and need to know this.

You’re right. This is so sad but not common. It’s a sure bet when you see an advocate for child abuse so many of them it takes over their life and them you find out it’s because they wer abused when they were kids too. You get close to these advocates you think want to he you and you see terrible psychological problems in them and they’re not equipped to help other victims because they’re too messed up themselves an it’s the blind leading the blind. If you were abused you must seek intensive therapy from a good licensed professional therapist but don’t fall in the trap of those crazy advocates who are obsessive about running the lives of victims as a front for their own psychological damaged minds.

Sad and tragic story but a sad reality. It has been with mankind for ever and will be till end of days. Nothing can be done more then ways being done.

Stop with the blaming and finger pointings. Life comes with travesty and we have to live with it.

Our abusers need to be jailed. In Ramapo, they are given community service and are free to molest over and over while the little boys are blamed.

I think it does a disservice to everyone ESPECIALLY THE YIDDIN IN DETROIT when people jump to conclusions that his ptira was self inflicted due to abuse. Was there a letter left saying that was the reason? Lets not jump to conclusions. Just because he wrote something a while back about his experience doesnt mean it affected him to the point where he wanted to do this. Maybe he had a hard time in the IDF? Maybe he saw somethings in gaza that made him do this? I read thru his facebook posts for the past while and there wasnt even a hint to the reasons brought here.

I agree with all these comments, but I don’t see the point in posting this article. Maybe later, but now? His parents are in enough pain as it is. It is a terrible tragedy and this brave young man has proven his bravery time and again.

It’s high time that abusers are made to cower in fear. I cannot fathom the audacity it takes for a person to pretend a Rebbe in a yeshiva or a counselor in a camp and breach the trust that is instilled in them. If you have a sickness and need to touch kids, don’t take jobs in the rabbinate or around kids! You sick people.

This story is horrible on so many levels. But, there are individuals in Detroit Jewish community who are secretly relieved that he’s gone, his Huffington Post piece scared them, and now their secrets are safer. I only wish he had named named, both those of his abusers and the (so-called) Rabbonim who covered it all up, before his untimely death.

Dave’s Blood is on the murderers thug rabbis that deny us validation and acceptance. Dave< I will continue to fight and avenge your soul rest in peace my friend

In Detroit, the rabbonim don’t believe the little boys when they tell their parents of abuse. In Ramapo, they don’t believe the little boys and expel them from Yeshiva….yet the world is silent about our rabbonim who abuse our precious babies.

What 4 or 5 year old has the capacity to make up such stories of abuse? None!
