Kosher items were removed from a refrigerator display in Holborn, an area in central London, last Saturday as a precaution against possible anti-Israel activists. Items such as kosher dips, meat and fish remained for sale in another area of the store.

A spokeswoman for the chain said recent demonstrations outside some of their stores sparked the manager’s concern at the Holborn location.

Sainsbury’s first stated it wouldn’t create a national policy for its managers on how to deal with protestors, but changed their direction and reassured its customers it would not happen again.

“This will not happen again,” Corporate Affairs Director Trevor Datsun said according to The Jewish Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1tpDCy4). “Managers will be told not to move kosher food because of some perceived threat. It should not have happened and, explicitly, it cannot happen again.”

In early August, Sainsbury’s and another grocery chain, Tesco, said they would not give in to anti-Israel protesters. Tesco reported demonstrations at approximately 20 of its stores, and four Sainsbury’s branches were temporarily closed at the height of the Gaza conflict due to activists gathering outside.

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw) stated store employees should be able to go to work without the worry or threat of violence.

I have 8 vehicles on the road which I fill at Sainsbury and I pull my workers for ever going there again, I and my friends stop using the local Sainsbury. I get a form note back. I wrote again and told them form letters don’t work and you are being anti-semitic. I guess other people also wrote
