NYPOST.com (http://bit.ly/1rwze2W) reports that the marauding gang, which included several vehicles and motorcycles, rolled up out of nowhere on the couple screaming anti-Semitic slurs on East 63rd Street near Third Avenue around 8 p.m. Monday night.

After pelting his wife with a water bottle, the brutes then punched the 27 year-old Jewish man upside the head as he stepped in to defend her.

The perps then retreated to their getaway cars, some of which were adorned with Palestinian flags.

The couple, who live nearby, suffered only minor injuries.

Police sources say the hate crimes task force is investigating the attack, but hinted that the couple may have been targeted because the man was wearing a kippah.

“targeted because the man was wearing a kippah”
Isn’t that the definition of a hate crime?

And therefore it’s NOT a hate crime?

Either way in case you thought it couldn’t happen here in your own backyard…..

‘but hinted that the couple may have been targeted because the man was wearing a kippah’, well duh, that’s what makes it a ‘hate crime’!

What a crazy world we live in. It’s only going to get worse.
Move to Texas where owning and carrying a gun is legal.

Last night a convenience store owner was robbed at gunpoint and shot the robber in the head. He is a local hero today.

Buy a gun. Contrary to what Bloomberg and gungrabbing liberal idiots think, Jews have a right to defend themselves. Put a bullet in his head and his Jewhating buddies will think twice next time.

With all the NYPD cameras strung all along Manhattan it shouldn’t be that hard for the police to find these thugs. Assuming of course, they really do want to find them.

if he was wearing a kippah then its not a hate crime? when it comes to jewish victims there are always reasons that it was something else but when it is by other ethnics it is automaticly a hate crime unless proven wrong

Translation: although the investigation has just begun, it seems likely that it was a hate crime, in particular because of the fact that he was wearing a yarmulke.

The reason it may not be a hate crime is that his wife was not wearing a kippah. Therefore it is being investigated. We now have to wait for the results that theses geniuses will come up with…

this is scary and should not be taken lightly, especially since it was an Arabic group that committed this act
just a few weeks ago, r”l, a frum man was killed in FL, where the police there, too, have not classified it as a hate crime.
we should be protesting, or at the very least, demand that this a) WILL be classified as a hate crime and b) find and convict the mamzayrim involved…yimach shemam
    we need a frum Sharpton

Enough with the comments about how obviously this is a hate crime. I am an attorney with criminal law experience (on both sides) and tell you that this is PRECISELY how a case should be reported at this stage. Let the police do their investigation before jumping to conclusions. Yes, there certainly are compelling factors that support this being a hate crime, but, as any cop will tell you, you don’t pick the immediately obvious theory and not investigate further. As for the fools who believe carrying a gun is a solution to all problems, when you are unexpectedly jumped by many people, you will not have time to take your gun out. It is more likely to be taken and used against you. Not to mention, there is a doctrine of reasonable force. If the only assault was a thrown water bottle and one punch, responding by killing the attacker is not an appropriate level of force. I am so sorry for those of you who are so poisoned by fear, hatred, and ignorance that you think the only way to live in society is to be ready at any time to kill anyone and everyone.

Unfortunately wearing a Kippah these days makes you vulnerable. Carrying a gun is a good idea, just make sure to do so legally and be at the range practicing a few days a week minimum.

Still with a gun, wearing a Kippah does open you up for attack from behind.

I want to hear what the new Progressive Mayor has to say about this outrage. Where is the all powerful Al Sharpton or Jesse Hymie Town Jackson ? Any attack as this needs to be dealt with quickly and severely or the animals who did this will not learn their lesson.

It is a fact of life, that anywhere a Jew wears a Kippah in public (except for heavily populated frum areas), it is a risk. Jews have been attacked and harassed in various communities of the USA, as well as in Europe, while wearing Kippahs. A former South African resident told me that while visiting Australia, someone saw him with his Kippah and shouted “Heil Hitler”. He told me that it never occurred to him in South Africa. Even in EY, frum Jews have been attacked by Russian skinheads, who were let into EY, by the Jewish Agency. Some of them may not even be Jewish. Even Siks have been attacked and killed in the USA, by extremists, who thought that they were Muslims.

Our kippot should be a sign to the goyim that I am Jewish and I carry Hashem’s message. Instead it is a sign to come beat me up
