In an endorsement published online Wednesday night the newspaper’s editorial board said Wu offers a “fresh perspective and a new voice.” The Columbia University law professor is running alongside liberal gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout.
The endorsement highlights concerns some liberals have with Cuomo and his running mate Hochul, a former Buffalo congresswoman.
The editorial questioned Hochul’s judgment, noting that in Congress she opposed the federal health care overhaul and was endorsed by the National Rifle Association but has adopted more liberal opinions now that she’s running with Cuomo.
On Tuesday the newspaper declined to endorse Cuomo or Teachout in the governor’s race.
