Before the arrest, police increased security in central Israel after receiving a general warning of a possible terror threat, security forces said Tuesday. Police were acting on information from the Shin Bet (the Israel Security Agency).

The warning related to a potential infiltration of terrorists from the West Bank to the Kfar Yona region near Netanya.

Police set up roadblocks in the area and heightened their presence.

“We are asking the public to be on high alert and to report to the police on anything suspicious,” a senior police officer told Channel 2. The officer said that the sweeps in the area would continue until the threat was ruled out.

In July, border police officers stopped a suspected potential terrorist attack by arresting a man at the West Bank junction of Betar Illit. Police said the man was carrying an explosive device in his car.
