The flight was diverted to Jacksonville on Monday night. According to a report by the Jacksonville Airport Authority, 32-year-old Amy Fine of Boca Raton was resting her head on her tray table when the passenger ahead of her reclined the seat. The seat hit Fine’s head, and witnesses say the two passengers began arguing. Flight attendants called Fine combative.

According to the report, Fine told authorities she wasn’t combative but emotional over the death of her two dogs.

The report says Fine wasn’t arrested and was allowed to go home in a rental car. The flight continued to West Palm Beach.

Fine didn’t return a message on her cellphone seeking comment Tuesday.

There are several airlines, which have reconfigured its seats, so it is impossible to push it back. I can’t understand why the other airlines don’t follow suit, and prevent all seats from reclining? An aircraft is not one’s personal living room. People are cramped in like sardines as it is; why add fuel to the fire? Not only does the seat reclining issue act as a catalyst for combative passengers, but it makes the job more difficult for flight attendants, who have to implore passengers to raise their seats in the upright position for takeoff and landing. Unfortunately, the airlines could care less about fights in the cabin. If they really cared, not only would they prevent the seats from reclining in the first place, but they would not sell alcohol during the flight. Alcohol in some passengers loosens their inhibitions, and makes some angry and combative. It was reported that Ms. Fine, started cursing. I hope that she enjoyed her seven hour drive from Jacksonville, to Boca Raton.

That happened to me once. It hurt a lot. I didn’t make scene. It is ridiculous at how jammed close those seats are though.

In 2010, former Gov. Mitt Romney boarded a flight in Vancouver, en route to the West Coast. Seated in front of him was a large individual, who was a member of a rock band. The inconsiderate person in front of Romney shoved his seat back toward Romney before the flight took off. Romney asked him repeatedly to move it forward for the takeoff; his request was ignored. Finally, they almost came to blows. The end result was that the inconsiderate passenger was thrown off the flight. Again, this is just one more example of how the airline companies feed into this problem, by permitting the seats to recline. They know that there are individuals who will ignore the rules, every day of the week; these individuals have the same mentality as those who insist on speaking loudly on their cell phones onboard the aircraft, when they are prohibited from doing so. Yet, the airline companies remain totally oblivious to this problem. In fact, the animals which are in the cargo compartment, are treated much more humanely than the passengers.

Give a tazers to the flight attendants, and you won’t need to land the plane every time somebody gets mad!
