The affidavit was filed in order to obtain a search warrant, reports CBC News (http://bit.ly/1wgqBrk).

Documents left behind by Lev Tahor families when they fled Quebec for Chatham, Ontario, in November 2013 were seized by Sûreté du Québec investigators. The families left Quebec to evade a child protection order that ensued from allegations of child abuse.

Investigators seized two laptops, an external hard drive, financial documents belonging to a company owned by Lev Tahor members, credit cards, marriage licenses from Missouri and Revenu Québec and Immigration Canada documents.

Several bottles of ibuprofen, antibiotics, medication to treat seizure disorders and an antipsychotic were also found.

In the affidavit, the SQ refer to a CD that was given to them in the spring of 2012. The CD had been given to a rabbi in Quebec by a former Lev Tahor member. The affidavit states the CD contains documents from 2010 and 2011 that include a forged passport, power-of-attorney documents declaring control over members of Lev Tahor in case of incapacity, notarized real-estate sale documents and at least one other contract.

The SQ document purported that most of the CD materials were tied to Mayer Rosner, a high-ranking member of Lev Tahor and leader Shlomo Helbran’s confidante.

In a Jan. 29 search, investigators seized hospital and health care cards.

A witness and former member of the sect who was questioned by police made several allegations, according to the affidavit, that have yet to be proven. Allegations include that children were beaten with a hanger in the community’s synagogue, Ministry of Education documents were falsified, the children did not attend school and that children were placed with other families if the parents did not conform to the leader’s rules.

Other testimony states that Helbrans made Lev Tahor members go to the doctor with a list of specific symptoms in order to obtain certain medications, physical and sexual abuse occurred and arranged marriages also occurred.

The affidavit also states that children from other countries were brought to the Lev Tahor community for arranged marriages.

Lev Tahor has denied all allegations.

Lev Tahor member Nachman Helbrans said Lev Tahor families fled to Guatemala for religious freedom.

It is not a SECT, it is a CULT. There is a major difference between the two. Let us not confuse the sect with a cult that engages in abusive brain control.

Not one of these claims have been substantiated. Despite numerous investigations, the children were slays returned to their parents.
