Diaz made his comments after a photo of the 9/11 anniversary event on Thursday showing a line of New York officials honoring the anthem by putting their hands over their hearts, while the speaker council is seen not placing her hand on her heart during “The Star-Spangled Banner”.

The NY Post reports that Diaz who is of Puerto Rican descent called it an insult saying “She doesn’t care about America. She’s a communist from Puerto Rico,”.

“She goes on sacred ground and disrespects America that way. It’s disrespectful to the heroes, the fallen who died on 9/11, it’s disrespectful to the victims and families of 9/11.”

This is not really newsworthy. Time holds America. Not the limits of changing bad moods. Give them the freedom to pray and observe by their own design. If you don’t like her, don’t vote for her. G-d is not a hand chopped off. Assertively incorrect.

And it is definately trust in Hashem to cover your heart during the national anthem. Eventually we all have hope.

As a serious question, do observant Jews pledge allegiance to the flag?

    She deserves to be dumped!!
Her (lack of) actions are insulting to all, especially those still hurting.
    For a P. R., she needs a lesson in P.ublic R.elations!

When I went to public school, in the 60s, we placed our hands over our hearts when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and our arms were at our sides when singing the Star Spangled Banner. In recent years, I’ve noticed many place their hands over hearts during the SSB, so I do also.

America is here to support the fallen. Not rap at it to seem more delighted. Hate for the limited justified plan is naziism. Going after them politically because of failed displays of patriotism is terrifying. Good luck next time you are distracted and fail to put your hand over your heart. This is asinine and anyone going after a human being for a lack of public allegiance is a criminal. America is the home of the free. Not the land of the slave. Give her a smile and help her find liberty. Naziism requires a salute. America blesses the friends of liberty. Know the difference if you are going to sit in good company.

And to the friend #6 above, I am sure you are hard at work in America besmirching the regular hope of anyone who has read more books than you have bones. Good luck.

to call some one a slur because they do not put their hand on their heart? It would seem that that person who hurls the slur has a screw missing in their head.

Not even a custom for everyone to put their hand over their heart when singing the Star Spangled Banner. Stand respectfully and sing out loud. Same as in schul.

I notice that only Guiliani is wearing “the Flag” in his lapel, as Obama did this week. Are we going to go back to that again. How could Pataki stand there without a flag. So disrespectful!

Thank you for educating me. Some Christian groups do not do the pledge.

As I recall, it is proper to salute the National Anthem when the flag is present. A civilian or a service member not in uniform salutes by placing his or her right hand over the heart. When there is no flag present, simply standing for the anthem is sufficient. It the event reported the flag was presented and the anthem played. The woman should have saluted properly. Whatever her politics, her failure to salute a gross breach of etiquette. I guess she was never a Girl Scout.
