Judaism reject the stunning of animals before slaughter and prescribe that animals be killed by a swift throat cut.
Germany's federal chamber of veterinarians had earlier called kosher and halal slaughter "cruelty to animals."
The body's president, Ernst Breitling, demanded a change in German law to end an exemption for minority butchers which he said had allowed 500,000 sheep to be slaughtered annually in this way.
Stephan Kramer, general secretary of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, dismissed the demand, saying it encouraged anti-religious prejudice. "The prevention of cruelty to animals has the highest priority in Judaism and prevailed long before animal-protection societies and laws existed," he said in Berlin.

European governments have tried for hundreds of years to ban shechita. The Germans were smarter. Instead of banning shechita, they just killed all those who believed in shechita. Now that they can't do that anymore, they're going back to the old goyishe policy of trying to ban shechita. Netzach yisroel lo yeshaker.

Actually the very first act done by Hitler when he got into power was banning Shechita. So the Germans are following their rich national tradition.

Well, typically when people want to go after those who follow Halacha they usually try to hit Shchitah and then Bris Milah. You know the usual arguments... we're causing such pain for the animals, we're doing a bris without asking the baby's opinion. It's almost like they're reading from a script already.
If the German people believe that our humane form of Shchitah (which is a lot better than the savages who shoot the animal and let it die slowly) is not good enough, perhaps they can share some of their experiences on how to efficiently end lives?
Do they expect us to use Zyklon on the cows and sheep?

The lack of pain [and suffering] to the animal with the {Jewish] Shechita method has been corroborated by science! So all those opposed to the practice of Shechita are driven by their own agenda! Furthermore, Germany, [and German groups] are in no moral position to lecture others about cruelty and suffering! Especially while the Holocaust survivors are still alive!

This story reminds me on event I experienced as a child Vienna. In summer I went shopping with my mother. My mother A'H went shopping on Thursday and bought a carp which she kept alive till Friday morning. The place was the Volkert market in Vienna and the seller had wrapped the carp and wet newspaper. While walking a policeman stopped my mother A'H and asked her what she is carrying in the newspaper. She showed him the fish and he gave her a warning. Carrying the fish in wet newspaper was cruelty to animal. In 1942 my little cousins one age 11 and the other age 12 were sent respectively to Auschwitz and Maly Trostinec where they gassed.

I remember reading years ago some story, about Nazis hunting for a Jew, and the Jew ran into a cave, where ther was a dog, and the nazis heard the barking and said it's not worth wasting a bullet on the dog.
