Bratton told reporters that there is no current information pointing to a specific threat against the city. But he said that the New York Police Department continues to worry that American citizens who have joined forces with the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq could return home to New York to commit acts of terror.

“This is a new world — the evolving world of terrorism — and we are staying ahead of it,” Bratton said. “We have been focused on it, and I believe we are as prepared as any entity can be to deal with the threats. But the reality is that we are living in a new era of potential terrorism.”

Bratton also said that the Islamic State organization has demonstrated a sophisticated command of how to use the Internet to cultivate sympathizers in the West.

“We are quite concerned, as you would expect, with the capabilities of ISIS, much more than al-Qaida ever was able, to project their ability to use social media to try and spread their recruitment efforts and try to inspire,” Bratton said, using an acronym for the group.

Bratton spoke at the launch of two new police boats that the NYPD will use to patrol and protect New York Harbor.

Sad to say but it’s not a question of “if” but when it will happen.

remember that Brooklyn & Queens are on the western end of Long Island. If and when you have to flee, the bridges and tunnels will be totally jammed. Head for the HAMPTONS 110 miles out on the east end

Foolishness by those who are always eager to profit from a war that other people fight. ISIL has maybe 30,000 members, none of whom are in the U.S., no planes or missiles. They lack the operative ability to attack the U.S. at this time and their strategy is NOT to do so. In fact, they have repeatedly stated that they are first cleansing Islam from “heretics,” like Shiites. The sad truth is there is nothing that can be done to stop every single incidence of terrorism around the world. Even the Iraqis have said they don’t need US boots on the ground to defeat ISIL. The Iranians and the Saudis are not concerned enough to use their military. Follow the money when our so-called experts opine on the dangers of ISIL. Check to see which of them is on the payroll of defense contractors. You will find that all of them are. To elevate this one group to the status of danger to the U.S. is wrong and just plain dumb.
