White Plains, NY – State police say a New York City police officer was drunk when he drove the wrong way on the state Thruway last month and crashed head-on into another car, killing both drivers.

They say toxicology tests from an autopsy found that Officer Richard Christopher’s blood-alcohol content was 0.21 percent, more than twice the legal level.
Christopher was off duty when his pickup truck, going south in the northbound lanes in Rockland County, crashed into an SUV driven by James DeVito of Airmont on Aug. 12.
The state police also say two witnesses reported seeing Christopher, of Suffern, driving in the correct direction, then making a U-turn to go the wrong way.
The state police say no drugs were found in Christopher’s system and no drugs or alcohol in DeVito’s system.
Rhetorical question: why does it take a month to run toxicology tests in the police labs, when – when I get my blood drawn – I get the results back the next day?
