Abraham Widenbaum of Hillside Terrace was arraigned in the Village of Wesley Hills Justice Court on Friday night and was remanded to the Rockland County jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Widenbaum is charged with Attempted Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, Luring a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, after allegedly luring a six year old boy from his front yard, promising to give him candy on Wednesday, September 17th at approximately 6:28 PM.
Widenbaum allegedly walked with the boy to Congregation Kehillas Yesharim on Harriet Lane in Spring Valley, taking him to a vacant room.
Widenbaum then allegedly asked the boy to go find a friend and bring him back to the shul with him. After leaving the shul, the boy was found by his father, who had been out looking for the missing child. The child described his encounter with Widenbaum to his father, who contacted the Ramapo police. Widenbaum was no longer at the shul by the time police arrived on scene.
The victim’s father contacted Ramapo police again on September 19th just before 6 PM after noticing Widenbaum on E. Willow Tree Road in Wesley Hills. Police responded to the scene and arrested Widenbaum.
A spokesperson at the Village of Wesley Hills Justice Court told VIN News that Widenbaum is due back in court on Tuesday night at 7 PM.
Come on!!!!! This is sick sick sick!!!! However I hope they have solid proof.
what was deleted from the article is that the perp is a resident of a group home for mentaly disabled, take a look at his pic and you see it all
What a shame coming just before the yamim noaraim..Its a tragedy any time of year but during chodesh elul, an especially horrible way for the shul to become known. This is Rav Senter’s shul and most of the tzibur are ehrliche yidden who do not share anything in common with this one pervert.
Every 6 year old should always be trusted in situations like this. They can’t make up things like that. I wouldn’t say the same about a 15 year old, but think about it.
Given his history of mental illness it is difficult to know what his real intentions were.
according to the facts stated, this boy committed no crime. If his intent was to sexually abuse the child he would have done it. Absent that occurrence there is NO proof what his intent was, and hence, it is a false charge. When it is dismissed, the County and the bastard who called the police on this young man should be sued maximally.
