Rabbi Menachem Margolin stated that a total ban of the practice “is against freedom of religion,” reports the European Jewish Press (http://bit.ly/1qOOZvd).
Rabbi Margolin emphasized that shechita is, “the most humane method of slaughter,” as those performing the ritual ensure the welfare of the animal while it is raised for slaughter and at the time of the ritual.
Flemish Minister for Animal Welfare Ben Weyts told a Belgian television show that he will push for a total ban on ritual slaughter, which does not use pre-stunning of the animal.
Weyts stated that religious groups must follow current law that allows slaughter without pre-stunning only in abattoirs, and added that further laws about the ritual are on the 2015 agenda.
Approximately 7,000 people took part in a march against ritual slaughter on Sunday.
Margolin met with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders in early September, where Reynders said the fight against anti-Semitism ‘’will be among the new Belgian government’s foremost priorities.’’
Europe’s going to hell again, where Jews are concerned!
I think the most humane way to kill animals is to scare them to death, I guess they think hitting a cow or chicken on the head to knock them out and then dismantle them while they are still alive is humane???
