The official, who was not authorized to discuss the case publicly before Wednesday’s arraignment, says the arrest of Assemblyman William Scarborough follows a joint investigation by the state comptroller and attorney general’s offices.

The Queens Democrat was first elected to the Assembly in 1994.

Scarborough acknowledged in March that investigators raided his home, offices and hotel room in an investigation of his daily expense claims, saying a misunderstanding of the Assembly voucher system led to the investigation.

A call to his attorney wasn’t immediately returned.

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman are holding a news conference Wednesday afternoon in Manhattan to discuss the case.
