Washington – US Sharply Criticizes New Israeli Construction

    8

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest takes a question on the resignation of US Secret Service Director Julia Pierson, in the East Room of the White House, in Washington DC, USA, 01 October 2014. EPAWashington – The White House says that if Israel were to move forward with a controversial housing development in east Jerusalem, it would distance Israel from, quote, “even its closest allies.”

The sharp criticism came just hours after President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met at the White House. The two leaders did not mention the new construction project during their remarks to reporters.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest says that the 2,500-unit project would only draw “condemnation” from the international community. He says it would also call into question Israel’s commitment to peaceful negotiations with Palestinians.

The new project is contentious because it would complete a band of Jewish areas that separate Jerusalem from nearby Bethlehem.

Here goes the obsession with settlements. It is a disgrace that Obama even discusses it publicly (even via his spokesman). It was made into an issue before, and it did not make a fraction of a difference in the volume of terror and murder of Israelis. It is not an impediment to negotiations for peace. There are none anyway because the Muslim world is still hellbent on the destruction of Israel. Until Obama has the moral guts to call the issue what it really is, he’ll get in line with all those before him that failed.

Israel seems to be the only country in the world where the world has to vote to build or not to build in a sovereign nation. I don’t remember a time where, US, or Britain, or Germany has to ask the world if it is ok to build a few houses.
