NBCNEWYORK.com (http://bit.ly/1seuTyA) reports that according to Thompson’s office, Roberto Eddy Santos became Rabbi Avorham Gross after doing a 10-year prison stint in the 1990’s for violent robberies he’d committed as a member of the Latin Kings.
Police are still not sure whether or not Santos ever really converted, but he can be seen, as Rabbi Gross, interacting with members of the Brooklyn Hasidic community in photos on social media.
Currently, Rabbi Gross is charged with using a fake badge and other documents in passing himself off as a member of a fictional NYPD “child abuse prevention task force.”
DA Thompson said, “It’s bizarre,” but also called Rabbi Gross’ actions “serious.”
Rabbi Gross’ attorney Zakir Tamir refused to comment on the rabbi’s current charges or whether or not he is actually an authentic convert.
“Avorham”, that’s a common name.
So a criminal is impersonating a Hasidic Rabbi. Big deal. Otisville is full of Hasidic “Rabbis” impersonating criminals.
He’s a rabbi and no one knows if he converted? LOL
Bimkom sheh baaley teshuva omdim…
It’s almost Halloween. Maybe it’s just a costume.
If he really is a Rabbi, would he install a hidden camera in a mikveh?
Seems like there are many questions and we don’t really know. But I will tell you that the police are on it and we will definitely hear about him again. The news just loves saying “Rabbi rabbi rabbi” when they are talking about someone who is accused of bad behavior.
He obviously didn’t dunk completely. No Yiddisha Kup.
Dude, get yourself a new lawyer. Seriously.
there are no words……………..
If he looks like a rabbi and walks like a rabbi (Walks the walk) and talks like a rabbi (Talks the talk), then he is probably a rabbi…Also, an alleged criminal. But i like his spunk…!
