Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn), who has actively lobbied for the change with DOT heads and reps from Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office, called the change “a win-win” for both the city and New York drivers who have been inconvenienced by having to either wait for the meter to become active or make a special trip back to their car after arriving early.
Reps for the DOT said the mini-meter reprogramming will be a city-wide process that will begin early this winter.
